Pr econdition for the following steps:
Before you can use V oIP to phone any other subscribers on the Internet, the fixed line network or
the mobile phone network, you need a VoIP acc ount.
> Set up a VoIP account with a V oIP provider .
> Have the V oIP account da ta you receiv ed from your V oIP provider to hand .
Yo u w i l l n e e d :
> Y o u r re g i s t r a t i o n n a m e ( l o g i n I D ) , y o u r p a s s w o r d a n d , i f a p p l i c a b l e ( p r o v i d e r - d e p e n d e n t ) , a u s e r
name (often this is your V oIP phone number).
Or
> Y o ur personal auto -configuration code (activation code), if your provider suppor ts "automatic
configuration" .
Star ting the configura tion process
Instead of using the following proced ure, you can also enter the V oIP access data using your PC
(steps
to ):
> Launch the W eb bro wser on your PC.
> Enter the URL http://www.gigaset-config .com in the address field of the W eb browser and
press the return key .
Y o u are connected to your base station's W eb configurator . Y o u can find a description of the Web
configurator in the user guide on the enclosed CD .
When your handset is sufficiently charged
(approx. 20 minutes after you have placed it in the char g-
ing cradle), the message key
f o n t h e h a n d s e t f l a s h e s .
> Pr ess the message key f on the handset.
If "Update firmware?" is shown in the display , an updated firmware is already available on the
Internet for your phone. P ress the right-hand display key §Yes§ .
The new firmware is loaded . The process takes app rox. 3 minutes. The message key
f will now
flash again .
> Press the message key f to star t configuration.

Provided that your phone is set for auto- configuration (default setting), you will see the following
display . Otherwise go to .
> Pr ess the key below §Yes§ on the display (=
right display key).
> Using the number keys, enter the base sta-
tion's system PIN. By default, the PIN is
"0000" .

If you have made all the r equired entries, Sa ved will appear on the display .
If your V oIP provider does not require a username, this step
can be skipped.
> Using the number keys, ent er your username (user ID)
that you receiv ed from your V oIP pro vider . This entry is
case-s ensitive.
> Press the right-hand display key §OK§ .
> T o swit ch bet ween upper and lower case and digits , press the # key (several times if nec-
essary).
> Characters entered incorrectl y can be deleted using the left displ ay key X. The character to
the left of the cursor will be deleted.
> Y o u can navigate within the input field using the c ontrol key p (pr ess up/down).
> Using the number keys, ent er your
authentication name (user ID). This entr y
is case -sensitive.
> Press the right-hand display key §OK§ .
> Using the number keys, en ter your
authentication passwor d. This entry is
case -sensitive.

Y o u can enter five additional VoIP accounts ( V oIP phone numbers) via your base station's Web
configu rator .

Entering an auto - configuration co de
Selecting a provider and loading pro vider data to the
base station
> Enter your auto -configuration code using the key-
pad (max. 32 characters).
> Press the right-hand display key §OK§.
All data necessary for V oIP telephony is loaded directly
from the Int ernet to your phone.
F ollowing successful download, Saved is shown in the
display .
Proceed as described under .
Select countr y is displayed briefly in the dis-
play . A list of countries is loaded and the first
country in the list is shown in the display .
> Press the bottom of the control key
repeatedly , u ntil your coun tr y is displayed.
> Pr ess the display key §OK§ .
Select pro vider is displa yed briefly in the dis-
play . A list of providers is loaded and the first
provider is shown in the displa y .
> Press the bottom of the control key
repeatedly , until y our provider is display ed.
> Press the displa y key §OK§ .
If your provider does not appear in the list, you ha ve the following options:
> Press the left display key twice and continue as descr ibed in . However , you can only
make a call via VoIP once you hav e completed the provider details using the Web configurator .
Y o ur VoIP pr ovider will supply you with this data.
> Exit the connection assistant by holding the end call key a and entering the provider and
V oIP account details via the Web configurator .

Completing and testing V o IP settings
The handset switches to idle st atus. The idle displa y status is displayed.
If all the settings are correct and if the phone can establish a connection to the VoIP server , the
internal name of the handset will be displayed: (e xample)
T e sting your V o IP connection
If a message is displayed when you are trying to make a call via V oIP , you can check the base sta-
tion's connection to the I nternet by e.g. calling the Gigaset.net echo service:
> Enter one of the following phone numbers:
> Press the talk key c .
> When prompted, speak into the microphone on the handset.
If you hear your own v oice, your base station is c onnec ted to the Internet.
If you do not hear your v oice, check your phone and ro uter settings.
Y o u can now use your phone to make calls via the fixed
line network and the Inter net! Callers can contact you
on your fixed line network number , y our Gigaset.net
number or your V oIP number!
T o ensur e that you can always be reached via the Internet, the router must be per manently con-
nected to the I nternet.

be created in the Gigaset.net director y for you.
