》
For autofocus operation, s et the focus mode switch on the lens to the “AF”
position (fig.2). If you wish to focus manually , set the focus mode switch on the
lens to the “M ” position. Y ou can adjust th e focus by turning the focus ring.
《

For autofocus operation, set the camera to AF mode and set the focus mode
switch on the lens to the “AF ” position (fig.2). If you wish to focus manua lly , set
the focus mode switch on t he lens to the “M ” position. Y ou can adjust the focus

◆ For Nikon, Pentax and Sony mounts, it is only possible to use AF with camer a
bodies which support motors driven by ultrasonic waves such as HSM. AF
will not function if the camera bod y does not support this type of motor.
◆ This lens also permits manual focusing even in the autofocus mode. W ith
the camera set to the One-Shot AF (AF-S) mode, it is possi ble to manually
override the autofocus while th e shutter release button is pressed halfway .
◆ When operating this lens in manual focus mode, it is reco mmended that
correct focus be confirmed visually in the viewfinde r rather than relying on t he
distance scale. This is due to possible focus shift resulting from extreme
changes in temperature which caus e various components in the len s to
expand and contract. Special allowance is made for this at th e infinity
setting.
《Zooming 》
Rotate the Rubber grip on the zoom ring t o the desired position.
ZOOM LOCK SWITCH
This lens is also equipped with Zo om Lock Switch to elimin ate the zoom creep

ABOUT OS (OPTICAL ST ABILIZER) FEA TURES
(except Pentax A F and SONY mount)
This OS
(Optical Stabilizer)
lens effectively co mpensate s for image blurri ng
caused by camera shake.
With this lens, you can take pictures at shutter spe eds approx 4 steps slower
than you could without usi ng the OS fu nction of this lens and can get sh arp
results.
Set the OS(Optical Stabilizer )switch to Mod e 1 (fig. 4). Press the shutter butt on
halfway down, confirm the image in the viewfinder is s table then take the picture.
(It takes approxi mately 1 se cond to pr oduce a stable i mage, after pressing t he

, detects the vert ical came ra shake, and
overcomes bl urring. I t is effective on subjects movin g horizontal t o the camera.
◆ The blurring compensation func tion of Optical Stabilizer is effective for
hand-held shooting. In the following co nditions, Optical Stabilizer may not
function properly .
▪ Shots from the a moving vehicle ▪ If there is a considerab le camera motion
or shake.
◆ Please do not use Optical Stabilizer in the following situations.
▪ When the lens is mounted on a tripod. ▪ Bulb (long time exposure).
◆ Optical St abilizer fu nction is powered from the c amera. If the OS lens i s
attached to your camera and acti vated, shooting capacity of your camera will
be lower than with conventional le nses used with the same c amera. If you ar e
not using Optical St a bilizer , ple ase turn OFF the OS switch, in order to prevent
consumption of a batter y .
◆ Be sure to turn of OS switch to OFF position, be fore attaching or detaching
the lens to the camera.
◆ The Optical St abilizer continues to o perate after you release your fing er from

will not cause any effect on pictures.
◆ If the camera power is t urned off or lens is detached while th e Optical
S tabilizer fu nction is in operation, the lens may emit a chattering noise, bu t this
is not a malfunction.
◆ Optical St a bilizer feature can work with the Nikon AF cameras shown i n the
following table. When using this lens with other camera models not list ed in
the following table, please set the OS Switch to OFF position to cancel the
Optical St abilizer fu nction.

ABOUT TELE CONVERTERS
The lens can be us ed with Sigma’s 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX A po T ele Converters
(optional), becoming a 168-560mm F6.3-8 telephoto zoom len s or a 240-800m m
F9-1 1 telephoto zoom lens respectively ( both can be used in manual focus
only) .
◆ Do not use other manufacturers’ teleconverter ’s, only those listed above are
compatible.
◆ The Pentax mount T ele Converter is not c ompatible with this particular lens.
◆ We recommend the DG APO T ele-Converters when usi ng with DSLR
cameras.
LENS HOOD
A bayonet t ype detachable `hood is pr ovided with the lens. T his lens hood
helps to prevent flare and ghosted imag es caused by extraneous ligh t. Attach
the hood and turn clock wise until it stops rotating. (fig.9)
◆ In order to place the lens and hood into the storag e case, you must first
remove the hood, then replace it o n the lens in the reverse p osition. (fig.10)
FIL TER
◆ Only one filter should be used at a time. Two or more filters and/or special,

◆ When using a polarizing filter with a n AF c amera, use the “circular” t ype.
BASIC CARE AND ST OR AGE
◆ Avoid any shocks or exposure to e xtreme high or lo w temperatures or t o
humidity .
