Important
Read this user manual carefully before y ou use the
appliance and sav e it for future reference .
Danger
- Keep the charger away from water . Do not place or
store it ov er or near water contained in a bathtub,
washbasin, sink etc. Do not immer se the charger
in water or any other liquid. After cleaning, mak e
sure the charger is completely dr y before y ou
connect it to the mains.
- This appliance is not a to y . Check brush
heads regularly f or cracks. Cracked brush
heads ma y present a choke hazar d.
W arning
- The mains cord cannot be replaced. If the mains
cord is damaged, discard the charger . Alwa ys hav e
the charger replaced with one of the or iginal type in
order to av oid a hazard.
- If the appliance is damaged in any wa y (br ush head,
toothbr ush handle and/or charger), stop using it.
- This appliance contains no ser viceable par ts. If the
appliance is damaged, contact the Consumer Care
Centre in your countr y (see chapter ‘Guarantee and
ser vice’).
- Do not use the charger outdoor s or near heated
surfaces.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensor y
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they hav e been given super vision
or instr uction concerning use of the appliance by a
per son responsible for their saf ety .
- Children should be super vised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
Caution
- If you ha ve had or al or gum surger y in the previous
2 months, consult your dentist bef ore you use the
toothbr ush.
- Consult your dentist if excessiv e bleeding occurs
after using this toothbr ush or if bleeding continues to
occur after 1 week of use.
- If you ha ve medical concer ns, consult y our doctor
before you use the Sonicare.
- The Sonicare toothbr ush complies with the safety
standards for electromagnetic devices. If y ou have
a pacemaker or other implanted device, contact
your ph ysician or the device manufacturer of the
implanted device prior to use .
- This appliance has only been designed for cleaning
teeth, gums and tongue. Do not use it for any other
purpose . Stop using the appliance and contact your
doctor if you experience any discomfor t or pain.
- Do not use other br ush heads than the ones
recommended by the manufacturer .
- If your toothpaste contains pero xide , baking soda
or other bicarbonate (common in whitening
toothpastes), thoroughly clean the brush head and
the handle with soap and water after each use.
Otherwise the plastic may crack.
- Do not clean br ush heads, handle, char ger , char ger
cov er or interchangeable panels in the dishwasher or
a microwa ve .
Electroma gnetic elds (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper ly and according to the instructions in this user
manual, the appliance is saf e to use based on scientic
evidence availab le today .
Preparing for use
Applying the inter changeable panel
The Sonicare For Kids comes with 3 different
interchangeable panels.
1 Remo ve the adhesiv e backing from the panel.
2 Appl y the panel to the white section on the front
of the handle (Fig. 2).
Note: Mak e sure you line up the cut-out areas on the panel
with the buttons on the front of the handle.
Reapplying a panel that has been r emov ed
1 Rinse the panel in warm water; y ou ma y also use
a mild detergent to clean it.
2 Let the panel air dry .
3 Rea pply the panel to the white section on the fr ont
of the handle.
Attaching the brush head
1 Align the brush head so the bristles point in the
same direction as the fr ont of the handle . (Fig. 3)
2 Firmly pr ess the brush head onto the metal shaft
until it stops.
Note: Ther e is a small gap between the brush head and the
handle.
Charging the Sonicare
1 Put the mains plug of the charger in the wall sock et.
2 Place the handle on the charger (Fig. 4).
, The battery charge indicator in the power on/off
button ashes to indicate that the toothbrush is
charging.
, When the Sonicare is fully charged, the batter y
charge indicator stops ashing and remains on.
Note: If the battery charge of the Sonicare is low , you hear 3
beeps and the batter y charge indicator ashes rapidly for 30
seconds after the brushing cyc le .
Note: T o k eep the batter y fully c harged at all times, you may
k eep the Sonicare on the c harger when not in use. When
the batter y is fully charged, the charger uses a minimal
amount of energy. It tak es at least 24 hours to fully c harge
the batter y .
Tip: F or extra convenience during travel, you can remove the
travel charger and use it without the charger cover .
Using the Sonicare F or Kids
Brushing instructions
For children under age 8, it is recommended that a parent
or adult caregiver perform toothbr ushing.
1 W et the bristles and apply a small amount of
toothpaste.
2 Place the toothbrush bristles against the teeth at a
slight angle towards the gumline (Fig. 5).
3 Pr ess the power on/off button to switch on the
Sonicare.
4 Appl y light pressur e to maximise Sonicare’ s
effectiveness and let the Sonicar e toothbrush do
the brushing for you.
5 Gentl y move the brush head slo wly acr oss the
teeth in a small back and forth motion so the
longer bristles reach betw een the teeth. Continue
this motion throughout the brushing cycle.
Note: T o mak e sure you brush evenly throughout the mouth,
divide the mouth into 4 sections using the KidP acer feature
(see chapter ‘Featur es’).
6 Begin brushing in section 1 (outside top teeth)
until a tune indicates it is time to move to section
2 (inside top teeth). At the next tune, move to
section 3 (outside bottom teeth). The next tune
indicates it is time to move to section 4 (inside
bottom teeth). The toothbrush automatically
switches off at end of the brushing cycle (Fig. 6).
7 After y ou have completed the brushing cycle, you
can spend additional time brushing the chewing
surfaces of your teeth and ar eas where staining
occurs. Y ou ma y also brush your tongue, with
the toothbrush switched on or off, as you
prefer (Fig. 7).
The Sonicare For Kids is safe to use on:
- Braces (br ush heads wear out sooner when used on
braces)
- Dental restorations (llings, crowns, veneers)
Brushing modes
The toothbr ush automatically star ts in the default high
mode.
1 Pr ess the brushing mode button to toggle between
modes. (Fig. 8)
, The green mode light indicates the selected mode.
- High mode: Full-strength mode designed for older/
independent br usher s.
- Low mode: Reduced po wer mode used for training
and introducing younger children to the sonic
experience .
Featur es
KidTimer
- The KidTimer plays a congratulator y tune at the end
of the pre-determined br ushing time . Additionally ,
the KidTimer automatically switches off the Sonicare
when the br ushing cycle is complete.
- When in high mode, the KidTimer is set at 2 minutes.
- When in low mode, the KidTimer is set at 1 minute
and slowly increases to 2 min utes ov er time. This
slow increase in brushing time helps young children
reach the dentist recommended 2 minutes of
br ushing.
Note: Instruct your child to brush until they hear the
congratulatory tune and the toothbrush switches off.
KidPacer
The KidPacer uses a shor t tune to aler t the br usher
to mov e to the next br ushing quadrant of the mouth.
This ensures that the teeth get a thorough, o verall clean,
see section ‘Brushing instr uctions’ in chapter ‘Using the
Sonicare For Kids’.
Easy-start
- The Sonicare For Kids comes with the Easy-star t
feature activated.
- The Easy-star t f eature gently increases the pow er
ov er the r st 14 br ushings.
Note: Each of the rst 14 brushings must be at least 1
minute in length to properly advance thr ough the Easy-star t
ramp-up cycle .
Deactivating or activating the Easy-start
feature
1 Attach the brush head to the handle.
2 Place the handle in the plugged-in charger .
- T o deactivate Easy-star t:
Press and hold the pow er on/off button for 2 seconds.
Y ou hear 1 beep to indicate that the Easy-star t f eature
has been deactivated.
- T o activate Easy-star t:
Press and hold the pow er on/off button for 2 seconds.
Y ou hear 2 beeps to indicate that the Easy-star t f eature
has been activated.
Note: Using the Easy-start feature beyond the initial r amp-
up period is not recommended and reduces Sonicare’ s
effectiveness in remo ving plaque .
Cleaning
Do not clean brush heads, handle, charger , charger
cover or inter changeable panels in the dishwasher or a
micro wa ve.
T oothbrush handle
1 Remo ve the brush head and rinse the metal shaft
area with warm water (Fig. 9).
Do not push on the rubber seal on the metal shaft with
sharp objects, as this ma y cause damage.
2 Use a damp cloth to wipe the entir e surface of the
handle.
Brush head
1 Rinse the brush head and bristles after each
use (Fig. 10).
