This is the Startup Guide, which provides you with
instructions on the basic operations of the IC r ecor der.
The Help Guide is an online manual.
Refer to the Help Guide when you would lik e to know
further details, operations and pos sible solutions when a
problem oc curs.

Pr ec autions
On power
Operat e the unit only on 3.7 V DC with the built -in
rechar geable lithium-ion battery .
On safety
Do not oper ate the unit while driving, cycling or operating
any motoriz ed vehicle.
On handling
ˎ Do not leave the unit in a location near hea t sources, or
in a place subject to dir ect sunlight, ex cessive dust or
mechanical shock.
ˎ Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit, have the
unit checked by qualifie d personnel before oper ating it
any further .
ˎ When using your IC rec order , remember to follow the
prec autions below in order to avoid warping the c abinet
or causing the IC re corder to malfunction.
– Do not sit down with the IC re corder in your back pock et.
– Do not put your IC re corder into a bag with the
headphones/earphones cor d wrapped around it and
subject the bag to str ong impact.
If you have any questions or problems c oncerning your
unit, please consult your nearest Son y dealer.

L et’ s tr y out your new IC r ecor der
Char ge
Charge the IC r ecor der .
Using the supplied USB cable, connect the USB
connector inside the USB c onnector cover t o a USB port
of a running computer .
Charging starts.
When the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator
will indicate “
.”
Disconnect the IC r ecor der .
Make sur e that the operation indic ator does not light.
Then refer t o the Help Guide to remove the IC r ecorder
safely .
P ower on
T urn the power on.
Slide and hold the PO WER•HOLD switch in the direction
of “POWER” until the window display appears.
T o turn the power off, slide and hold the PO WER•HOLD
switch in the dire ction of “P OWER” until “Power Off” is
displayed.
T o prevent unintentional oper ations (HOLD)
¼ T o release the IC r ecorder fr om the HOLD status, slide the
PO WER•HOLD switch towards the c enter .
Set the initial se ttings
When you turn on the power for the first time, or when the
clock has not been set, “Setting Da te&Time” appears, and
you can set the clock.
Press or to select “Next, ” and then pres s
.
Press or to change the number of the
year , and then pres s to enter the number .
Repeat this pr ocedure t o set month, day , hour , and
minute in sequence .
Y ou can move the cursor to the previous item by
pressing BA CK/HOME.
Press or to select “Next, ” and then pres s
.
The clock reflects the se tting and the setting window
for turning the beep sound on or off is displayed.
Press or to select “Y es” or “No, ” and then
pres s .
When you finish setting the beep, the HOME menu
window is displayed.
Notes
ˎ If you do not press any buttons within 1 minut e at initial
settings, “Quit Initial Set-up?” or “Quit Beep Settings?” appears
on the display window .
ˎ Y ou can set the clock setting and beep sound setting la ter . F or

Select the menu language
Pr ess and hold BACK/HOME.
Press or to select “ Settings” -
“Common Settings” - “Language , ” and then pres s
.
Press or to select the language that you
want to use in the display window , and then pr ess
.
Y ou can select the following languages:
Deutsch (German), English*, Español (Spanish), Français
(Fr ench), It aliano (Italian), (Russian)
* Default setting
Pr ess and hold BACK/HOME to r eturn to the HOME
menu.
Rec or d
Opera tion indicator
¼ Bef ore you start using the IC rec order , make sure that you
slide the PO WER•HOLD switch towards the c enter to release
the HOLD status.
Press .
Recor ding starts and the operation indica tor lights in
red .
Place the IC r ecor der so that the built-in
microphones f ace the dire ction of the source t o be
rec orded.
Press again to stop r ecor ding.
“Saving... ” appears and the display returns t o the
rec ording stop mode window .
By pressing aft er you stop rec ording, you can play
back the file just rec orded.
Listen
Opera tion indicator
Press or to select “ Recor ded Files”
from the HOME menu, and then press .
Press or to select the desir ed folder , and
then pres s .
Press or to select the desir ed file, and
then pres s .
Playback starts and the operation indic ator lights in
green.
Adjust the volume by pres sing VOL –/+.
Press to stop playback.
¼ The built -in speaker is for che cking the recor ded sound, so
the volume is limited. If playback sound is not loud enough
or is difficult to hear , use headphones.
Delet e
Note
Once a file is delet ed, you c annot restor e it.
Select the file you want to dele te from the list of
rec orded files or play back the file you want t o
delete .
Pr ess OPTION, press or t o select “Delete a
File, ” and then press .
“Delete?” appears and the specified file is played back
for confirma tion.
Press or to select “Y es, ” and then pr ess
.
“Please W ait” appears in the display window and the
selected file will be delet ed.
Using the HOME menu
Y ou can display the HOME menu to use each function by
pressing and holding BA CK/HOME.
The HOME menu allows you to select a function, search
your rec orded files, or change the settings on the IC
rec order .
Pr ess and hold BACK/HOME.
The HOME menu window appears.
The HOME menu items are aligne d in the following
sequence .

Press or to select the function you want
to use, and then press .
Y ou can select the functions listed below:
Podc ast
Y ou can select podcast files
imported from a c omputer , and play
them back.
Music
Y ou can select music files imported
from a c omputer , and play them
back.
Recor ded Files
Y ou can select files recor ded using
the IC rec order , and play them back.
The rec orded files are st ored in a
FOLDER.

Y ou can display the Settings menu
and change various settings on the
IC rec order .

Using the OPTION menu
Y ou can display the OPTION menu by pressing OPTION.
The OPTION menu items vary for each function of the IC
rec order , and allow you to change various settings, et c.
Select the function you want to use fr om the
HOME menu, pres s and then press OPTION.
The OPTION menu items for the function you have
selected ar e displayed.
Press or to select the menu item f or
which you want to mak e setting, and then pres s
.
Press or to select the setting that you
want to se t, and then pr ess .

Installing Sound Or ganizer
Refer to the Help Guide of the IC r ecorder t o install Sound
Organiz er on your computer .
Notes
ˎ Sound Organizer is compa tible with the Windows PC only . It is
not compa tible with Mac.
ˎ If you format the built-in memory , all data store d there will be
erased. (The Help Guide and the Sound Or ganizer software will
also be erased.)
¼ When inst alling Sound Organizer , log in to an acc ount with
administrat or privileges.
W ARNING
Do not expose the ba tteries (battery pack or batteries installed)
to ex cessive heat such as sunshine , fir e or the like for a long
time.

T o pr event possible hearing damage, do not listen at high
volume levels for long periods.
The display turns off
automatic ally
Pres s BACK/HOME to turn on the display .
The screen off timer is se t to “ Auto Screen Off” by default
for saving battery power .
If no operation is a ttempted for appr oximately 30 se conds
in the stop mode and for appr oximately 10 sec onds in
the rec ording and playback modes, the display turns off
automatically .
Y ou can perform a button operation, however, even while
the display is off.
¼ T o change the settings, press and hold BA CK/HOME and
select “
Settings” - “Common Settings” - “Screen Off
Timer” - “No Auto Screen Off . ”
