L et’ s try out your new IC rec or der Using the menu
1. Char ge.

Charge the IC r ecor der .
Slide the USB slide lever in the direction of the arr ow ( -A), and
insert the USB connector into the USB port of a running c omputer
( -B).
Charging starts.
When the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator will
indicate “
.”
Disconnect the IC r ecor der .
Make sur e that the operation indica tor does not light. Then refer
to the help guide to r emove the IC recor der safely .
2. P ower on.
T urn the power on.
Slide and hold the HOLD•PO WER switch in the direction of
“PO WER” until the window display appears.
T o turn the power off, slide and hold the HOLD•PO WER switch in the
direction of “POWER” until “Power Off” is displayed.
T o prevent unintentional oper ations (HOLD)
Slide the HOLD•PO WER switch in the direction of “HOLD” until “HOLD”
is displayed.
¼ T o release the IC r ecorder fr om the HOLD status, slide the HOLD•POWER
switch towar ds the center .
3 . Set the initial settings.
When you turn the power on for the first time, or when the clock has
not been set, “Setting Date&Time” appears, and you c an set the clock.
Press or to select “Next, ” and then
pres s (play/enter).
“Date&Time” window appears on the display .
Press or to change the number of the year , and then
pres s (play/enter) to enter the number . Repea t this
proc edure to se t month, day , hour , and minute in sequence.
Y ou can move the cursor to the previous item by pr essing BACK/
HOME. When you set the minute and pres s (play/enter), the
clock reflects the se tting and the setting window for turning the
beep sound on or off is displayed.
Press or to select “Y es” or “No, ” and then press .
When you finish setting the beep, the HOME menu window is
displayed.
ˎ If you do not pres s any buttons within 1 minute at initial settings, the
initial setting mode is canc eled and the window will return to the HOME
menu window .
ˎ Y ou can set the clock setting and beep sound setting lat er. For details,
refer t o the Help Guide of the IC recor der.
About f olders and files
Audio files rec orded by the IC r ecorder ar e stored in a folder of the IC r ecorder .
5 folders are c onstructed automatic ally as explained below , by default.
”FOLDER01” - “FOLDER05”:Stor ed the files that are re corded by mic.

Using the HOME menu
Y ou can display the HOME menu to use each function by pres sing and holding BACK/HOME.
The HOME menu allows you to select a function, search your r ecorded files, or change the settings on the
IC rec order .
Pr ess and hold BACK/HOME.
The HOME menu window appears.
The HOME menu items are aligne d in the following sequence.

displayed in “XX.”

Press or to select the function you want t o use, and then press .
Y ou can select the functions listed below:
Podc ast
Y ou can select podcast files imported fr om a computer , and play them back.
Music
Y ou can select music files imported from a c omputer , and play them back.
Recor ded Files
Y ou can select files rec orded using the IC rec order , and play them back.
Recor d
Y ou can display the rec ording window . T o start rec ording, press REC/P AUSE.
Settings
Y ou can display the Settings menu and change various settings on the IC
rec order .
Return to XX*
Select this item to r eturn to the window displayed befor e entering the Home
menu.
* The function you are curr ently using is displayed in “XX. ”

Using the OPTION menu
Y ou can display the OPTION menu by pressing OPTION.
The OPTION menu items vary for each function of the IC r ecorder , and allow you to change v arious
settings, etc.
Select the function you want to use fr om
the HOME menu, and then press OPTION.
The OPTION menu items for the function you
have selected ar e displayed.
Press or to select the menu item f or which you want to
make setting, and then press (play/ent er).
Press or to select the setting that you w ant to set, and
then pres s (play/enter).

ˎ Press STOP to r eturn to the window displayed befor e you entered the OPTION menu.
4. Select the menu language.
Select BACK/HOME - “ Settings” -
“Common Settings” - “Language, ” and
then pres s (play/enter).
Press or to select the language that you w ant to use in
the display window , and then press (play/ent er).
Y ou can select the following languages:
Deutsch (German), English*, Español (Spanish), F rançais (F rench),
Italiano (Italian), Русский (Rus sian)
* Default setting
Pr ess and hold BACK/HOME to r eturn to the HOME menu.
5 . Recor d.

Built-in micr ophones
¼ Bef ore you start using the IC rec order , mak e sure that you slide the
HOLD•PO WER switch towards the c enter to release the HOLD status.
Press REC/P AUSE.
Recor ding starts and the operation indicat or
lights in red.
Place the IC r ecor der so that the built-in micr ophones face
the direction of the sour ce to be r ecor ded.
Press ST OP to stop rec ording.
“Please W ait” appears and the display r eturns to the re cording
stop mode window .
By pressing aft er you stop rec ording, you can play back the file
just rec orded.
6 . Listen.

Press or to select “ Recor ded Files” from the
HOME menu, and then press .
Press or to select the desir ed folder , and then press .
Press or to select the desir ed file, and
then pres s .
Playback starts and the operation indic ator
lights in green.
Adjust the volume by pres sing VOL –/+.
Press ST OP to stop playback.
7 . Er ase.
Onc e a file is erased, you cannot rest ore it.
Select the file you want to er ase when the IC rec order is in
the rec ording stop , playback st op, or playback mode.
Select OPTION - “Erase a File , ” and then
pres s .
“Erase?” appears and the specified file is
played back for c onfirmation.
Select “Y es, ” and then pr ess .
“Please W ait” appears in the display window and the sele cted file
will be erased.
Using the Scr een Off Timer
T o save battery power, the screen off timer is set to “ Auto Screen Off” by default.
When the screen off timer is se t to “ Auto Screen Off , ” if no operation is att empted
for appro ximately 30 seconds in the st op mode and for appro ximately 10 seconds
in the rec ording and playback mode, the display turns off automatic ally . Y ou can
perform a button oper ation, however, even while the display is turned off. T o turn
on the display , press BA CK/HOME.
¼ T o disable the screen off timer , select BA CK/HOME - “ Settings” -“Common Settings” - “Scr een Off Timer, ”
and then select “No Auto Screen Off . ”

This is the Quick Start Guide, which provides you with instructions on the basic operations of the IC
rec order . Please read it car efully . W e hope you enjoy using your new Sony IC re corder .
Utilizing Y our C omputer
Installing the help guide on your c omputer
By installing the help guide on your comput er from the built-in memory of the IC rec order , you can
search for de tailed operations and pos sible solutions when a problem occurs.
Slide the USB slide lever on the back of the IC rec order , and insert the USB connect or into the
USB port of a running computer .
In Windows: Click [Computer] (or [My C omputer]), then double-click [IC REC ORDER] [FOR
WINDOWS].
In Mac: Double-click [IC REC ORDER] on the desktop.
Install the help guide.
In Windows: Double-click [Help_Guide_Installer] (or [Help_Guide_Installer .exe]).
In Mac: Double-click [Help_Guide_Installer_for_mac.app]. (v10.5 .8 or higher)
Follow the instructions that appear on the scr een to proc eed with installation.
After the installation c ompletes, double-click the [Help_Guide_icdu54_c e.htm] icon in the
desktop for Windows (or in Finder f or Mac).
The help guide is displayed.

Installing Sound Or ganizer
Refer to the help guide of the IC r ecorder t o install Sound Organizer on your c omputer .
Note
ˎ Sound Organiz er is compatible with the Windows PC only . It is not c ompatible with Mac.
ˎ If you format the built -in memory, all data stored ther e will be erased. (The Help Guide and the Sound
Organiz er software will also be erase d.)
¼ When inst alling Sound Organizer , log in to an account with administr ator privileges.

Do not expose the ba tteries (battery pack or batteries installed) to e xcessive hea t such as sunshine, fir e or the
like for a long time .
