Sliding the POWER•HOLD swit ch to “POWER” and holding it for 8 seconds or longer restarts
your IC rec order . For detailed instructions, refer to the Help Guide.

Char ge
Charge the IC r ecorder .
Slide the USB slide lever in the direction of the arr ow , and inser t the
USB connector int o the USB port of a running computer .
When the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator changes fr om
the charging animation t o “
.”
Disconnect the IC r ecor der .
Make sur e that the message “ Acc essing” is no longer on the display
window . Then r efer to the Help Guide to r emove the IC rec order
safely .
P ower on
Slide and hold the PO WER•HOLD switch in the direction of “POWER” until
the window display appears.
T o turn the power off, slide the PO WER•HOLD switch to “POWER” and
hold it until “Power Off ” appears on the display window.
T o prevent unint entional opera tions (HOLD)
Slide the PO WER•HOLD switch in the direction of “HOLD . ”

T o release the IC re corder fr om the HOLD status, slide the POWER•HOLD switch
towar ds the center .

When you power on your IC rec order for the first time , the “Configur e
Initial Settings” screen appears on the display window . Y ou can then
select the display language, set the clock, and turn on/off the beep
sound.
Press to start the initial settings.

• If you take 30 seconds or longer befor e proce eding to the next step , the
display window will turn off. T o turn on the display window for continuing the
initial settings, press BACK/HOME.
• Y ou can change any of the initial settings at any time la ter . For det ailed
instructions, refer t o the Help Guide.
Using the HOME menu
Y ou can use the HOME menu for a v ariety of operations, including locating
and playing a rec orded file and changing the settings of your IC r ecorder .

Y ou can select and play one of the files you have
imported from a c omputer . T o locate a music file,
select “ All Songs, ” “ Albums,” “ Artists,” or “Folders. ”
When importing files, be sure to import them into
the MUSIC folder .
Recor ded Files
Y ou can select and play one of the files you have
rec orded with your IC r ecor der . T o locate a r ecor ded
file, select “Latest Recor ding, ” “Search by REC Da te, ”
“Search by RE C Scene, ” or “Folders. ”
Recor d
Y ou can display the re cord standby scr een, and then
start rec ording.

Y ou can display the Settings menu scr een and
change various settings on the IC r ecor der .
Back to XX*
Y ou can go back to the scr een that was displayed
before the HOME menu scr een.

Using the OPTION menu
Y ou can use the OPTION menu to perform a v ariety of functions, including
changing the settings of your IC re corder .
The available items diff er depending on the situation.

C opying files fr om your IC r ecor der to a
comput er
Y ou can copy the files and f olders from your IC re corder t o a computer to
store them.
Follow the instructions in “Charge ” to connect your IC r ecorder to
a computer .
Drag and dr op the files or folders you want to c opy from
“ICREC ORDER” or “MEMOR Y CARD” to the local disk on the
computer .

Installing Sound Or ganizer 2
Install Sound Organiz er on your computer .
Sound Organiz er allows you to ex change files between your IC re corder and
your computer .
Songs imported from music CDs and o ther media, MP3 and other audio
files imported to a comput er can also be played and tr ansferred t o the
IC rec order .
Notes
• Sound Organizer is compatible with Windows c omputers only . Itis no t
compatible with Mac.
• This IC recorder is c ompatible with Sound Organiz er 2 only .
• If you format the built-in memory , all data st ored ther e will be deleted. (The
Sound Organiz er software installer will also be dele ted.)

• When installing Sound Organizer , log in to an ac count with administr ator
privileges.
• The installation procedur e varies depending on the Windows version. The
following proc edure uses Windows 10 as an e xample.
Follow the instructions in “Charge ” to connect your IC r ecorder to
a computer .
Make sur e the IC rec order is suc cessfully de tected by the
computer .
“Connecting” appears and stays on the IC rec order's display window
while the IC rec order is conne cted to the comput er .
Right-click a t the bottom left corner of the desk top, and then click
[File Explorer] on the menu.
Double-click [IC REC ORDER] - [FOR WINDOWS].
Double-click [SoundOrganiz er_V2002] (or [SoundOrganiz er_V2002.
ex e]).
Follow the c omputer's on-screen instructions.
When the [W elcome to Sound Or ganizer 2 Installer] window
appears, click [Next].
Make sur e that you acc ept the terms of the lic ense agreement,
select [I acc ept the terms in the license agr eement], and then click
[Next].
When the [Setup T ype] window appears, select [Standard] or
[Custom], and then click [Next].
Follow the instructions on the scr een and set the installation se ttings
when you select [Custom].
When the [Ready to Install the P rogr am] window appears, click
[Install].
The installation starts.
When the [Sound Organiz er 2 has been installed succ essfully .]
window appears, check [Launch Sound Organizer 2 Now], and
then click [Finish].
Note
Y ou may need to rest art your computer after installing Sound Or ganizer 2.
Pr ecautions
On power
DC 3.7V : the built-in rechar geable lithium-ion battery

On handling
• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sour ces, or in a place subject
to dire ct sunlight, exc essive dust or mechanical shock.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit, remove the battery
and have the unit checked by qualifie d personnel before oper ating it any
further .
• When using your IC recor der , remember to follow the pre cautions below
in order to avoid w arping the cabinet or causing the IC r ecor der to
malfunction.
– Do not sit down with the IC rec order in your back pock et.
– Do not put your IC rec order into a bag with the headphones/earphones
cor d wrapped ar ound it and subject the bag to strong impact.
• Be careful not t o allow water to splash on the unit. The unit is not
waterpr oof. In particular, be careful in the f ollowing situations.
– When you have the unit in your pocket and go to the ba throom, etc.
When you bend down, the unit may drop into the water and may ge t
wet.
– When you use the unit in an environment wher e the unit is exposed to
rain, snow , or humidity .
– In circumstances wher e you get sweaty . If you touch the unit with we t
hands or if you put the unit in the pocket of swea ty clothes, the unit may
get wet.
• Listening with this unit at high volume may affect your hearing.
• For traffic saf ety , do no t use this unit while driving or cycling.
• Do not use this unit at a place wher e the inability to hear surrounding
sounds may present a danger .
• Y ou may feel pain in your ears if you use the headphones when the
ambient air is very dr y .
This is not because of a malfunction of the headphones, but because of
static electricity ac cumulated in your body . Y ou can reduc e static electricity
by wearing non-synthetic clothes that pr event the emergenc e of static
electricity .
• Do not place this product close t o medical devices.
This product (including ac cessories) has magnet(s) which may int erfere
with pacemak ers, progr ammable shunt valves for hydr ocephalus
treatment, or other medical devic es. Do not place this pr oduct close to
persons who use such medical devic es. Consult your doctor befor e using
this product if you use any such medic al device.
On noise
• Noise may be heard when the unit is placed near an A C power sourc e, a
fluoresc ent lamp or a mobile phone during recor ding or playback.
• Noise may be recor ded when an object, such as your finger, etc., rubs or
scrat ches the unit during rec ording.
On maintenance
T o clean the exterior , use a soft cloth slightly moistened in w ater . Then use a
soft dry cloth to wipe the exterior . Do not use alcohol, benzine or thinner .
If you have any questions or problems c oncerning your unit, please consult
your nearest Sony dealer .
W ARNING
• Do not expose the batteries (ba ttery pack or batteries installed) to
ex cessive heat such as sunshine , fire or the lik e for a long time.
• Do not subject the batteries to e xtreme low temper ature conditions that
may result in overheating and thermal runaw ay .
• Do not dismantle, open or shred secondary cells or batt eries.
• In the event of a cell leaking, do not allow the liquid to come in contact
with the skin or eyes. If contact has been made, wash the affected ar ea
with copious amounts of wa ter and seek medical advic e.
• Do not use any charger other than tha t specifically provided f or use with
the equipment.
• Secondary cells and batteries need t o be charged befor e use. Alw ays
use the corr ect charger and r efer to the manufactur er’s instructions or
equipment manual for pr oper charging instructions.
• After extended periods of st orage, it may be necessary to char ge
and discharge the c ells or batteries several times t o obtain maximum
performance.
• Dispose of properly .

• Before you start rec ording, make sure that the HOLD status is r eleased.
• Y ou can select a re cording sc ene for each situation by selecting “Scene
Select” in the OPTION menu.
Select “ Recor d” from the HOME menu.
The rec ording standby scr een appears.
Select a stor age and a folder to save the r ecorded file.

T o save the recor ded file on the microSD card, you need to change the file
storage destina tion folder . Select “Recording F older” - “SD Card” from the
OPTION menu, and then start rec ording.
T urn the IC recor der so that its built-in micr ophones point in the
direction of the t arget sound sour ce.
Press REC/P AUSE.
“REC” appears on the display window to indicate that r ecording has
started, and the operation indicat or lights in red.
Note
If you press and hold RE C/P AUSE, the IC recor der will pause. It will not
start rec ording.

The rec ording level guide ( ) is displayed while r ecor ding. The
section between + and + ( ) is the optimal input level f or rec ording.
Please adjust the orientation of the built -in microphones, the
distance fr om the sound sourc e, the microphones' sensitivity setting,
or the “Scene Select” setting so that the re cording level fits within the
optimal r ange, as illustrat ed.
Press ST OP to stop r ecor ding.

Right after you stopped r ecor ding, you c an press t o play the file you have
just rec orded.
T o add a tr ack mark
Y ou can add a tr ack mark at a point at which you want to divide a file lat er
or locate during playback. Y ou can add a maximum of 98 track mark s to
each file.
Y ou can also add tr ack marks during rec ording.
Loca ting the desired playback point quickly (Time Jump , Easy Search)
• Using the time jump function allows you to move to any of the 10 points
throughout the to tal duration of a file . Y ou can use this function with
or in the time jump mode.
• Using the easy search function allows you to forwar d or reverse a fixe d
number of seconds (10 sec onds for forwar ding, 3 seconds for r eversing)
during playback.

The “Screen Off Timer” setting on your IC rec order is set t o
“30Sec” by default to save battery power . If you leave the IC
rec order untouched f or 30 seconds, the display window will turn
off, but you can still perform any button oper ations. T o turn the
display window back on, press BACK/HOME.
