T o i nitial ize (format) the player
Y o u can forma t t he built-in flash memo r y of the player . I f the memory is
forma tted, all files including the U ser Guide (HTML document) will be erased
and all setting values ret ur ned to their defaul ts. Be sure to verify the files stored
in memory prior to fo rmatting, a nd then export any n ecessary f iles to the hard
disk of yo ur computer o r other device b efor ehand.
1 Press and h old t he BA CK/HOM E but ton u ntil the Home
menu a ppears.
2 Select [Setti ngs] – [ Commo n Setti ngs] – [Res et/
F ormat] – [F ormat] – [Y e s] – [Y es] in th is or der .
Press the / / / b utto n to selec t the item, a nd then press the
but ton to co nfirm.
When initializa tion finishes, [M emory format ted.] ap pears.
Note
Do not f ormat the b uilt-in flash memory using W indows Explo rer . If y ou
forma t the built-in flash memory , forma t it on the player .
T r oubleshoot ing
If the pla yer does not function as expected, try t he follo w ing steps t o resolve the
issue.
1 Find the s ympto ms of the i ssue in “T r oubleshoo ting ” in t he
Use r Guid e (HT ML doc umen t), a nd try an y cor rectiv e
actions l iste d.

2 Conne ct the pl ay er to y our co mpute r to char ge the ba ttery .

3 Press the R ESET b utton with a
small pin, etc .
If yo u press the RES ET button while opera ting
the player , st ored da ta and play er s ettings ma y
be lost.
4 Check in form ati on on the i ssue i n

Symptom Cause/Remedy
The play er cannot cha rge
the battery .
The USB cable is n ot connected to a US B connector
on your co mputer p roperly .
Disconnect the USB cable, an d then reconnect it.

The batt ery is charged in an amb ient temperat ure out
of the rang e of 5 °C (41 ºF) to 35 °C (95 ºF).
Y o u cannot char ge the bat tery w hen icon
appears. Cha rge the battery in an ambien t
tempera ture o f 5 °C (41 ºF) to 35 °C (95 ºF).
The com puter i s not on.
T urn on the co mputer .
Y o ur comp uter has enter ed Sleep or Hiberna tion
status.
Release the compu ter from Sleep o r Hibernatio n
status.
A USB hu b is being used.
Connecting the player via a USB h ub may not
work. Connect the pla yer to yo ur comp uter using
the USB cable (su pplied).
The operating sys tem installed on the com puter is not
supported b y t he pla yer .

comp uter with the operating system tha t is

When yo u use the player f or the first time, or when
the battery is low , i t may take the pla yer about 30
seconds to displa y t he message a f ter connected to a
comp uter . This is not a malfunction.
The software a uthentication ma y b e performed and it
may take ra t her a long time . W a it for a while.
The software ins tallation has been failed.
Reinstall the software by using the in staller . The
imported data will rema in unto uched.
The com puter i s running another softwar e other than
the one used for tran sferring.
Disconnect the USB cable, wai t a few minutes, and
reconnect it. I f t he pr oblem persists, disconnect the
USB cable, r estart t he com puter , and then
reconnect the USB cab le.
[Connected USB. The pla yer cannot be operated.] o r

on the software en vironment tha t is r unning on y our
comp uter .

Precautions
About the headphones
A void pla ying the unit at so lo ud a volume tha t extended play might affect your hea ring.
At a high v olume outside sounds may become inaudible. A void listening to the
unit in situations where hearing must not be impaired, f or example, while
driving or cycling.
As the sup plied headphones are o f open-air design, sounds go out thro ugh the
headphon es. Remember not to dist urb t hose close to you .
