T o initiali ze (format) your “ W ALKMA N”
Y ou can fo rmat the buil t-in flash memory of your “W ALKMAN. ” If the
memory is format ted, all f iles including the U ser Guide (HTML documen t)
will be erase d and all setting values r eturned to their defaults. Be sure to verify
the files stored in memo ry prior to forma tting, and then export an y necessar y
files to the hard disk o f your com puter or o ther device beforehand .
1 Press and h old t he BA CK/HOM E but ton u ntil the Home
menu a ppears.
2 Select [Setti ngs] – [ Commo n Setti ngs] – [Res et/
F ormat] – [F ormat] – [Y es] – [Y es] in this o rder .
Press the / / / b utto n to selec t the item, a nd then press the
but ton to co nfirm.
When initializa tion finishes, [M emory format ted.] ap pears.
Note
Do not f ormat the b uilt-in flash memory using W indows Explo rer . If y ou
forma t the built-in flash memory , forma t it on your “W ALKMAN. ”
T roubl eshooting
If yo ur “W ALKMAN” does not function as expec ted, try the following steps to
resolve the is sue.
1 Find the s ympto ms of the i ssue in “T roublesh ooting” in th e
Use r Guid e (HT ML doc umen t), a nd try an y cor rectiv e
actions l iste d.

2 Conne ct you r “W ALKMAN” to y our com pute r to char ge the
batt er y .
Y ou may be ab le to resolv e some issues b y charging the battery .
3 Press the R ESET b utton with a
small pin, etc .
Before resettin g your “W ALKMAN, ” check that
no song, video , etc. is being play e d back. Y ou
can then reset your “ W ALKMAN ” safely .
4 Check in form ati on on the i ssue i n
the H elp o f each softwar e.
5 Look up informa tion on the issu e on o ne of the c usto mer
support W eb sit es.

Symptom Cause/Remedy

of the rang e of 5 °C (41 °F) to 35 °C (95 °F).
Y ou cannot ch arge the ba ttery when the icon
appears. Cha rge the battery in an ambien t
tempera ture o f 5 °C (41 °F) to 35 °C (95 °F).
The com puter i s not on.
T urn on the co mputer .
Y our com puter has ent ered Sleep or H ibernation
status.
Release the compu ter from Sleep o r Hibernatio n
status.
A USB hu b is being used.
Connecting your “W ALKMAN” via a USB hub ma y
not wo rk. Connect your “W ALKMAN” to your
comp uter using the USB cable (su pplied).
The operating sys tem installed on the com puter is not
supported b y your “W ALKMAN. ”
T o ch arge yo ur “W ALKMAN, ” connect your
“W ALKMAN” to a compu ter with the operating
system that is s upported b y your “W ALKMAN. ”
Y ou hav e not used your “W ALKMAN” for m ore than
a year .
Depending on the conditio ns under which your
“W ALKMAN” is used, the battery may have been
deteriorat ed. Consult yo ur nearest Sony dealer .

When yo u use your “W ALKMAN” for the first time,
or when the batt ery is low , it may take y our
“W ALKMAN” about 30 seconds to displa y the
message after co nnected to a com puter . This is n ot a
malfunction.
The software a uthentication ma y b e performed and it
may take ra t her a long time . W ait for a while.
The software ins tallation has been failed.
Reinstall the software by using the in staller . The
imported data will rema in unto uched.
The com puter i s running another softwar e other than
the one used for tran sferring.
Disconnect the USB cable, wai t a few minutes, and
reconnect it. I f t he pr oblem persists, disconnect the
USB cable, r estart t he com puter , and then
reconnect the USB cab le.
Y our “W ALKMAN”
becomes unstable while
it is connected to the
comp uter .
A USB hu b or USB exten sion cable is being used.

About the headphones
