The playing order of the folders and files is as
follows. However, the playing order may differ from
the original order on the disc, depending on the
rec ording me thod used.

Notes on MP3/WMA discs
When a disc is loaded, the unit reads all the files on that
disc. During this time, “READING” is flashing. If there are
many folders or non-MP3/WMA files on the disc, it may
take a long time for play t o begin or for the ne xt MP3/
WMA file to start to play .
We r ecommend tha t non-MP3/WMA files or unneces sary
folders are e xcluded when cr eating MP3/WMA discs.
During playback, audio files other than MP3 and WMA
files are skipped even if those files ar e included in a folder .
The audio formats supported by this unit ar e as follows:
MP3: File ext ension “ .mp3”
WMA: File ext ension “ .wma”
Note that even if the file name has the c orrect file
extension but the actual file w as creat ed in a different
audio format, this unit may produce noise or may
malfunction.
MP3 PRO format is not supported.
Folder names can be displayed with up t o 32 charact ers,
including quotation marks.
File names can be displayed with up to 32 char acters,
including quotation marks and file e xtensions.
Characters and symbols that c annot be displayed by the
unit will appear as “_” .
This unit conforms to version 1. 0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 of the
ID3 tag format for MP3 files, the WMA tag format defined
by the ASF specification (Advanc ed Syst ems Format) f or
WMA files, and the AAC tag f ormat for AA C files.
When a file has the ID3, WMA or AAC tag information, the
song title, artist name, and album name will be displayed.
If a file does not have the tag information, the unit
displays as follows:
File name instead of the song title.
“NO ARTIST” message instead of the artist name.
“NO ALBUM” message instead of the album name .
ID3, WMA and AAC tag information can be displayed up to
64 characters.
T r ansf erring music fr om a disc to a
USB device
Y ou can transf er a whole disc (CD SYNC tr ansfer) or
the currently playing tr ack or file (REC1 tr ansfer) t o a
USB device (digital music player or USB st orage
media, et c.).
When transf erring from a CD , the tr acks ar e
transf erred as MP3 files with a sampling fr equency
of 44. 1 kHz at 128 kbps (CBR). When transferring
from an MP3/WMA disc, MP3/WMA files are
transf erred with the same bit r ate as the original
MP3/WMA files.
1 Connect the USB devic e to the (USB) port

When the transf erring sourc e is a CD-DA tr ack, the
audio file is generat ed up to the point the
transf erring was stopped. When the source is an
MP3 or WMA file, the file that is currently being
transf erred is no t generat ed.
Folder and file gener ation rules
When first transf erring to a USB device , a “MUSIC”
folder and its sub folder “SONY” ar e cr eated dir ectly
below the “ROO T” folder .

Notes

Do not remove the USB devic e during transferring or er ase
operations. Doing so may corrupt the data on the device
or damage the device itself.
While transferring, no sound is output and “HI- SPEED”
appears on the display .
CD- TEXT information is not transf erred in the cr eated MP3
files.
T ransf erring stops automatic ally if:
the USB device runs out of space during tr ansferring.
the number of audio files and folders on the USB device
reaches the limit that the unit c an rec ognize.
Non-MP3/WMA/AAC format files or sub f olders in the
folder are no t erased.
Radio sound and sound from an optional c omponent
cannot be tr ansferre d to a USB device .
Note on c opyright-pr otected content
The transferr ed music is limited t o private use only . Use of
the music beyond this limit requir es permission from the
copyright holders.
WMA files encoded in WMA DRM, WMA Lossless and
WMA PRO formats canno t be played back.
This unit cannot play audio files on a disc in the following
cases:
When the total number of audio files e xc eeds 999 .
When the total number of folders on a single disc
ex ceeds 256 (including the “ROOT” folder).
When the directory level (folder dep ths) exc eeds 8
(including the “ROO T” folder).
Folder names can be displayed with up t o 32 charact ers,
including quotation marks.
File names can be displayed with up to 32 char acters,
including quotation marks and file e xtensions.

When removing a USB device , hold down

device ex ce eds 5, 000.
When the total number of folders on a single USB
device ex ce eds 256 (including the “ROO T” folder).
When the directory level (folder depths) e xc eeds 8
(including the “ROO T” folder).
These numbers may vary depending on the file and folder
structure.
Compatibility with all enc oding/writing software is no t
guarante ed. If audio files on the USB device wer e
originally encoded with inc ompatible softwar e, those files
may produce noise or int errupted sound, or may not be
played back at all.
W ARNING
T o reduc e the risk of fire or electric shock, do not

T o reduce the risk of fir e, do not cover the ventilation
opening of the appliance with newspapers,
tablecloths, curtains, e tc. Do not expose the
appliance to nak ed flame sour ces (for e xample,

T o reduce the risk of fir e or electric shock, do not
expose this appar atus to dripping or splashing, and
do not place objects fille d with liquids, such as
vases, on the apparatus.
As the main plug is used to disconne ct the unit from
the mains, conne ct the unit to an easily acc essible
AC outlet. Should you notice an abnormality in the
unit, disconne ct the main plug from the A C outlet
immediately .
The unit is not disconnect ed from the A C power
sourc e (mains) as long as it is connect ed to the wall
outlet, even if the unit itself has been turned off.
Do not install the applianc e in a confined spac e,
such as a bookcase or built -in cabinet.

headphones can cause hearing los s.
Do not expose the ba tteries (battery pack or

BLUET OO TH devic es must be “pair ed” with each
other befor ehand. Onc e BLUET OO TH devices are
paired, there is no need for pairing again, unless the
pairing information is clear ed.

The passcode of the unit is fix ed as “0000 . ” The unit
cannot be pair ed with a BLUET OO TH device whose

By just touching the unit with an NFC -compatible
smartphone, the unit is turned on and switche d to
the BLUET OO TH function automa tically and then
paired and c onnected t o the smartphone.

What is “NFC”?
NFC (Near Field Communica tion) is a
technology enabling short -range wir eless
communica tion between various devic es,
such as mobile phones and IC tags. Thanks t o
the NFC function, data c ommunication c an be
achieved easily just by touching the r elevant
symbol or designated loc ation on NFC
compatible devic es.

requir ed to download the app .
The App may not be available in some c ountries
and/or regions.
Tip
For some smartphones, One-touch c onnection may be
available without downloading the app “NFC Easy
Connect. ” In that c ase, the operation and specifications
may be different fr om the description her e. F or details,
refer t o the operating instructions supplied with the
smartphone.

3 Start the app “NFC Easy Connect” on the
smartphone.
Make sur e that the application scr een is
displayed.
Notes
When using the radio on batteries and the ba ttery power drops to a c ertain level, the OPR/BA TT indicator
dims or the power
of the radio may go off during playback. If this happens, replac e all the batteries with new ones. Even after the OPR/BA TT
indicator
becomes dim, you can use the radio function for some time, although you cannot use the CD player . Befor e you
replace the ba tteries, be sur e to remove an y CD and disconnect any USB devic es or optional components fr om the unit.
T o use the unit on batteries, disc onnect the A C power cord fr om the unit and the wall outlet.
In standby mode with the AC power c ord conne cted, “ST ANDBY” appears on the display .
T o use the power -management function (Eur opean models only)
This unit is equipped with an automatic st andby function. With this function, the unit enters standby mode
automatically aft er about 15 minutes if ther e is no operation or audio signal output.
T o turn standby mode on or off, press V OL
while holding down
. Each time you pr ess the buttons,
“ AUT O ST ANDBY ON” or “ AUT O ST ANDBY OFF” appears on the display .
Notes
The displayed content starts flashing on the display about 2 minutes bef ore entering st andby mode.
The automatic standby function is not av ailable with the FM/AM function.
4 T ouch the unit with the smartphone.
Keep t ouching the smartphone to the N mark
on the unit until the smartphone responds.
Note
If your smartphone screen is locke d, the smartphone will
not function. Release the lock, then touch the
smartphone to the N mark again.
Smartphone responds

Follow the on-scr een instructions to establish the
connection.
When the BLUET OO TH c onnection is established,
“BTAUDIO” appears on the display.
Tips
If it is difficult to establish the connection, tr y the
following.
Activate the app “NFC Easy Connect” and move the
smartphone slightly across the N mark
on the
unit.
If the smartphone is in a case, r emove it.
T ouch the unit with the smar tphone again to
disconnect.
If you have multiple NFC-c ompatible devices, just
touch the smartphone to a differ ent device to swit ch
the connection to tha t device. For example, when your
smartphone is connected with NFC -compa tible
headphones, just touch the smartphone to the unit to
change the BLUET OO TH connection t o the unit
(One-touch connection swit ching).
Listening to music
Check the following befor e oper ating the unit.
The BL UET OO TH function of the BLUET OOTH
device is turned on.
P airing has been complete d. (See “Pairing this unit
with a BLUET OO TH devic e” .)
1 Make the BLUET OOTH c onnection between
the unit and the device.
For an NFC -incompatible BLUET OOTH
device

2 Start playback of an audio sourc e such as
music, videos, games, etc., on the device.
Refer to the instruction manual of your devic e for
details on playback oper ations.
Tip
T o adjust the volume, se t the volume of the BLUET OO TH
device or the smartphone to the moder ate level, and then
press V OL or +
on the unit.
T o terminate a BL UET OO TH connection
Do any of following.
T urn off the BLUETOO TH function of the
BLUET OO TH devic e. For details, refer to the
operating instructions supplie d with the device.
T urn off the BLUETOO TH devic e.
Change the function of the unit.
T urn off the unit.
T ouch the unit with the smartphone again to
disconnect (NFC -c ompatible smartphones only).

station.
If you cannot tune to a st ation using automatic
tuning mode, press TUNE + or
repeat edly to
change the frequency st ep by step.
When an FM stere o broadcast is r ec eived, “ST”
lights up on the display .
Note
The unit of frequency of tuned sta tions is MHz for the FM
band and kHz for the AM band.
T o change the FM/AM tuning interval
(This function is only available on models for some
countries/r egions. See the r adio section in
“Specifications. ”)
The FM/AM tuning interval can be changed if
neces sary using the following proce dure .
1 Pr ess FM/AM
repeat edly to select a band.
2 Hold down ENTER
until “FM-xx” or “ AM-xx”
flashes on the display .
3 Hold down FM/AM
until the current tuning
step appears.
4 Press
or
to select the desir ed
tuning step.
“FM 50K” (for 50 kHz int erval) or “FM 100K” (for
100 kHz interval) in the FM band, and “ AM 9K” (for
9 kHz interval) or “ AM 10K” (for 10 kHz int erval) in
the AM band can be selected.
5 Press ENTER

Changing the tuning interval erases all the FM/AM
preset st ations stor ed in the unit. Rese t your preset
stations after changing the tuning int erval.
T o improve r adio rec eption
Use the radio in a plac e where
radio signals c an be easily
rec eived, such as near a window.
Also, adjust the antenna (FM) or
reorient the unit itself (AM) f or
good rec eption.
Adjust the antenna to
improve FM r ecep tion. If the
stere o FM rec eption is noisy ,
press FM MODE
repeat edly
until “MONO” appears on the
display . Y ou will lose the
stere o effect, but the
rec eption will be impr oved.
Reorient the unit
itself to improve AM
rec eption. (A ferrite
bar antenna is built
in the unit.)
If the rec eption pr oblem still persists, try changing
the installation loca tion.
Avoid plac es such as the following:
Between
buildings
Nearby
mobile
phones,
electrical
appliances
On steel desks
or tables
Pr esetting stations to F A VORITE
RADIO ST A TIONS
Y ou can preset up t o three f avorite stations t o
F A VORITE RADIO ST A TIONS (1-3) buttons. Assign one
FM or AM progr am for each button.
1 Pr ess FM/AM
repeat edly to turn on the
radio function and select the band “FM” or
“ AM. ”
2 T une to the station you want to pr eset.
3 Pr ess and hold the desire d F A VORITE RADIO
ST A TIONS (– SET) (1- 3) button
until you hear
a beep.
The tuned station is pr eset to the select ed button
of F A VORITE RADIO ST A TIONS (1-3) and the same
number as that of the button will light up on the
display .
(Example: Pr esetting FM 8 7 .50 MHz to number )
T o change the preset sta tion
Repeat steps 1 to 3 .
The preset st ation on the button will be r eplaced by
the new one.

T o prevent the preset fr om being changed by mistake , do
not hold down the button. If doing so, the pr eset on the
