• The Sp e a ke r indicator light comes on when the
speakerphone is in use.
• T o stop using the speakerphone., just pick up the
handset.
• In most procedures in this manual , you can also
press Sp e ak e r to use the speakerphone wherever the
instructions tell you to pick up the handset.
Adjusting the speak erphone volume
1) While using the speakerphone, press Volu m e. S P K
(speakerphone mode) shows in the display .
2) Pr ess u p to increase the volume or Do wn to lower the
volume. The speakerphone volume level setting will be
saved in memory .
Things to remember while using the speakerphone
• The speakerphone works similar to a two-way radio: y ou
can listen or talk, but not both at the same time.
• When using the speakerphone, position yourself close t o
the phone so the caller can hear you clearly .
F or best speakerphone per formance, a void the f ollowing:
• Areas with high backgr ound noise. ( The microphone
might pick up these sounds and preven t the
speakerphone from going into the r eceiving mode when
you nish talking.)
• Sur faces aected by vibra tion.
• Recessed areas such as in a corner , under a cupboard, or
next to a cabinet, which can generate an echo e ect.
Additional T elephone F eatur es
Redial
Y ou may redial the last number y ou called by pressing
re D ia l/ pauSe after you hear a dial tone.
The redial f eature holds the last number (up to 32
digits) that you dialed in memory . I f you pressed
any other numbers after dialing the phone number
(for example , when acc essing a voic e -menu system)
then those numbers are also dialed.
If you get a busy signal, pr ess r eD i a l/pauS e again without
hanging up .
Hold
Hold allows you t o suspend the active line(s) and replace
the handset in the cradle without hanging up , then resume
the conv ersation on the same phone or from a di erent
phone connected to the same line.
1) Pr ess H ol D to place a call on hold (the line indicat or is
red).
2) Pr ess l in e and pick up the handset or press Sp e ak e r to
resume the con versation.
Conf erenc e Calls
Y ou can use the confer ence call featur e when you hav e calls
on both lines and want to hav e a three-way conv ersation.
T o connec t and conf erence:
1) Call the rst part y .
2) Pr ess H ol D to put the rst party on hold.
3) Switch to the other line and call the sec ond par ty (or
answer an incoming call).
4) Pr ess Co n fe r en C e . Y ou will be able to speak with both
parties.
T o disconnec t one part y
Pr ess the button for the line y ou want to continue talking
to; the other call will automatically be disconnected .
T o disconnec t both parties
Hang up the handset or press Sp e ak e r .
T o end the conference call without disc onnecting
either part y
1) Pr ess H ol D to put both parties on hold.
2) T o speak to a part y individually , press the button f or the
line that part y is calling on; the second part y remains on
hold.
• T o switch to the other part y , press Ho lD follow ed by the
button for the other line .
• T o restart the conference , put both lines on hold and
press Co nf e re n Ce . Pick up the handset or press Sp ea k er .
Flash
Pr ess f l aS H/ ex i t to activate special features of y our
telephone network, such as call transfer , or special ser vices
from your local t elephone company , such as call waiting.
Mute
Use mu t e to interrupt a phone conversa tion to talk privately
with someone else in the room. A con versation can be
muted while using the speakerphone or handset.

2) Pr ess Mute again to turn it o .
T emporary T one Dialing
If you have pulse (r otar y) service and want to access
customer calling services (such as telebanking and long
distance services) that require tone dialing , you can use this
featur e to temporarily change from pulse t o tone service.
After dialing the telephone number and connecting to the
customer calling service,
1) Pr ess and release */ton e .
2) When you hang up , the telephone automa tically returns
to pulse dialing mode.
TIP: T emporary T one can also be used while storing
numbers in memory by pressing */to ne at the
necessary point in the storage sequence .
Caller ID F eatures
In order to use the fea tures in this section, you
must subscribe to two separa te services available
from your local telephone c ompany: the standard
Name/Number Caller ID Service to know who is
calling when the phone rings and Caller ID with Call
W aiting Service to know who is calling while you
are on the phone.
A timer (10 seconds on-hook and 3 seconds o-hook)
located in the upper right side of the display will start,
letting you know how much time is left until the unit
returns to the Summary Screen.
Summary S creen
The Summary Screen shows the current time, da te, and
number of new calls to review . I t is displayed until an y
button is pressed .
Receiving and St oring Calls
This unit receiv es and displays inf ormation transmitted by
your local phone compan y . This information can include
the phone number , date, and time; or the name, phone
number , date, and time. The unit can store up to 75 calls
for later r eview . W hen the memor y is full, a new call
automatically replac es the oldest call in memor y . NE W
appears in the display for calls r eceived that ha ve not been
reviewed .
Reviewing C all Records
• Pr ess u p or D o wn to view the call recor ds.
• Pr ess u p to scroll through the call rec ords from the oldest
to the newest.
• Pr ess D ow n to scroll through the recor ds from the newest
one to the oldest.
• When all of the recor ds have been view ed, START /E ND
appears in the display .
Deleting Call Rec ords
• T o delete the recor d shown in the display , press D e l et e
once.
• T o delete all recor ds while reviewing, pr ess and hold
De l et e for about three seconds. DE LE T E AL L? appears in
the display . P ress Delete again to c omplete.
Dialing Back
When reviewing Caller ID r ecords , you can dialback the
numbers shown on the display by pr essing D ia l .
If you did not progr am your local area code in the
set-up menu, all numbers will be 10 digits.
1) Use up or D ow n to display the number you want to dial .
If the number has only seven digits (i.e. 555-1234), then
the call came from within your ar ea code; howev er , this
does not guarantee the number is a local call .
If the number has 10 digits, then the call is not from
within your area c ode; however , this does necessarily
mean the number is a toll call.
2) Pr ess D ia l . The phone will start a 10-second countdo wn
in the upper right corner of the display . (If the phone is
already o hook, the countdown is only 3 seconds .)
3) If the phone displays A Dj uS T or PI C Ku P OR A Dj , you can
adjust the phone number format. P ress Di a l repeatedly
to scroll thr ough the available formats:
Digits F ormat
7 7-digit telephone number (i.e. 555-5555)
10 3-digit area code + 7-digit telephone number
(i.e. 425-555-5555)
11 long distance code 1 + 3-digit area code + 7-
digit telephone number (i.e. 1-425-555-5555)
If the phone displays P IC Ku P PH O NE , you can ’t adjust the
phone number .
4) When you see the corr ect phone number format, press
li n e 1 or l i ne 2.
5) Pick up the handset or pr ess S pe a k er to dial the display ed
number . NO W D IA L IN G shows in the display and the
number is dialed.
If you don ’ t pick up the handset or press Sp e ak e r
before the 10-sec ond countdo wn ends, the phone
times out and returns to the summary screen.
If the phone was already o hook when the
countdo wn starts, the phone dials the number in
the display when the 3-second c ountdown ends .
Caller ID Display Messages
The follo wing special messages indicate the status of a
message or the unit:
BL OCKED
CALL
The caller of the incoming call is
register ed as “Private Number ” and their
Caller ID information is withheld .
CALL W AITING Indicates a call is waiting on the line.
Battery power level is low .
NO CALLS The caller memory is empt y .
ST ART/END Y ou are at the beginning or the end of
the Caller ID memory log.
UNKNOWN
CALLER
The incoming call does not hav e Caller
ID service or their ser vice area is not
linked to yours . If UNKNOWN CALLER
appears along with a calling number , the
name information f or that number was
not available.
Memor y
Y ou may store inf ormation in any of the f ollowing memory
locations: 0 to 9, A, B, and C key s. ”
Storing a Name and Number in Memory
1) Pr ess S tor e . LOCATIO N? shows in the display .
2) Pr ess the desired memory location (0 through 9, A, B,
or C) , or use up or D ow n to scroll through the memory
locations. If you need to er ase an existing number , press
De l et e.
3) Pr ess S tor e again to conrm the memor y location.
4) Use the number keys to ent er the telephone number
(up to 32 digits) and press Sto re to save . ( The unit will
not dial a phone number in this mode.) The cursor
automatically mov es to the text line for name entry . If
you make a mistake, pr ess D el e te .
5) If you need the phone to pause befor e sending the next
numbers in the dialing sequence, pr ess r eD i al /pauS e (see
“Storing a P ause in Memor y ” for more details).
6) Use the number keys to ent er the name of the person
associated with the telephone number y ou just entered
(see Entering T ex t on Y our Phone” , below).
7) Pr ess S tor e to save the name.
8) T o enter another name and number in a dier ent
memor y location, return to st ep 1 and repeat the
process .
Entering te xt on your phone
• T o enter letters on your phone , ref er to the letters in the
top right corner of each number key; press the number
key once for the rst lett er , t wice for the sec ond letter , etc.
• The ashing cursor automatically mov es to the next
position; you can also press Do wn to mov e the cursor to
the next position.
F or example, to en ter the name BILL S :
1) Pr ess 2 twice to enter the letter B .
2) Pr ess 4 three times for the lett er I .
3) Pr ess 5 three times for the lett er L .
4) W ait for the cursor to mo ve to the next position or press
Do w n to move the cursor .
5) Pr ess 5 three times for the lett er L .
6) T o enter the space, pr ess D ow n twice.
7) Pr ess 7 four times for the lett er S .
Editing or erasing a stor ed number
1) Pr ess S tor e . LOCATIO N? shows in the display .
2) Pr ess the memor y location (0 through 9, A, B , or C) you
want to edit, or use up or Do w n to scroll through the
memor y locations.
3) T o erase the stored number , press D el e te . T o edit the
number , follow the procedure under “Storing A Name
and Number in Memor y ” starting from step 4.
Cop ying Caller ID Rec ords to Memory
1) Pr ess u p or D o wn to view the caller number and name you
want to cop y .
2) Pr ess S tor e .
3) Pr ess 0-9, A, B, or C for the memory location. The
memor y location ashes in the display if ther e is a record
occupying that memory location. If you don ’t want t o
erase the existing entry , select another location.
4) Pr ess S tor e to save the number , and then press S to re
again to edit the name.
5) Pr ess S tor e to conrm and save, and wait f or three
seconds to exit.
If the name you want t o enter is longer than 12
characters, only the rst 12 characters will be
copied into memory .
Cop ying Redial Numbers to Memory
1) Pr ess r eD i a l/pauS e while the phone is on-hook . The
display shows PI CK uP P H ON E .
2) Pr ess S tor e .
3) Pr ess 0-9, A, B, or C for the memory location. Pr ess S tor e
twice to conrm the location and the number . The cursor
ashes in the display and you ma y enter the caller’ s
name.
4) Pr ess S tor e to conrm and save, and wait f or three
seconds to exit.
If you want t o edit the number , press S to re within
three seconds to en ter the edit mode.
Storing a P ause in Memory
Y ou can use r eD i al /pauS e to inser t a pause when you need
the phone to delay in an automatic dialing sequenc e, f or
example, if you must dial a 9 t o get an outside line or when
you need to dial an extension number or access c ode.
Y ou can adjust the length of the pause from 1 to 9 seconds
in length. The default setting is 4 sec onds.

3) Pr ess u p or D o wn to scroll to the pause time , or press the 1
to 9 key for one sec ond to nine seconds respectively (i.e .;
1 = one second, 2 = two seconds).

2) Pr ess a, B, or C , or press D i al follow ed by the number key
(0 - 9) that contains the number you w ant to dial. The
stored number appears in the display .
3) T o dial the displayed number , pick up the handset or
press Sp e ak e r .

3) When you hear the dial tone , press a, B, or C , or press Di a l

T roubleshooting T ips
No dial tone
• Y ou must press a line button to get a dial t one.
• Check all cabling to make sure that all c onnections are
secure and not damaged.
• Check hook switch: does it fully extend when handset is
lifted from cradle?
No display
• Replace batteries.
• Check for proper ba ttery installation.
No information is sho wn after the phone rings
• Did you order caller id service from your local t elephone
company? This unit requires that you subscribe t o caller
id service in order to work.
• Be sure to wait until the sec ond ring before answ ering.
Phone dials in pulse with tone service
• Make sure tone/pulse dial mode in the setup menu is set
to tone dial.
Phone won ’ t dial out with pulse service
• Make sure tone/pulse dial mode in the setup menu is set
to pulse dial.
Phone does not ring
• Is the ringer switch in the o position?
• Are you using t oo many phones on one line? ( The
total REN of all phones on the same line should not be
great er than the maximum REN for your calling ar ea.
See paragraph 1 of the equipment appro val information
section of this user ’ s guide for more information).
• See “No dial tone ” .
Incoming v oice volume lo w
• Are other phones o hook at same time? If so , this is
normal condition as volume drops when additional
phones are used at once .
• Check the handset or speaker volume.
T elephone continues to ring after handset is
picked up or speak er button is pressed
• Y ou must press the line number to answ er a call.
Memory dialing do esn ’ t work
• Make sure you enter ed the numbers correctly into
memory.

T o keep your phone working and looking good, follow
these guidelines:
• Av oid putting it near heating appliances and devices
that generate electrical noise (for example , motors or
uorescent lamps).
• DO NOT e xpose to direct sunlight or moisture .
