Unlocking the vehicle:
Press button

deadlock all doors and activate the
anti-theft alarm syste m.
The vehicle can a lso be conf igured
to unlock only the d river’s door,

flap when pressing button c once
on the remote control. Pressing
button c twice will unlock t he entire
vehicle.
A short time af ter unlockin g the
vehicle with the remote control, the
doors are locked automatically if
no door has be en opened.

Manual tran smission:
Reverse gear :
With vehicle statio nary, wait
3 seconds after depressing clutc h
pedal, press the rele ase button on
the selector leve r and engage gear.
If the gear does not engage, set the
lever to neutral, release the clutch
pedal and depress again; then
repeat ge ar sel ection.
Do not grind the clutch
unnecessa rily.
When operatin g, depress clutch
pedal fully. Do not use the peda l as
a foot rest.
Automatic tr ansmission:
P = Park position, wheel s are
locked, engage only when the
vehicle is stationary and the
parking brake is applied
R = Reverse gear, engage only
when vehicle is s tationary
N = N eut ral
D = Automatic (drive) mode
with all gears.
The selector leve r can only be
moved out of P when the igniti on is
on and the brake pedal i s applied.
Automatic transmission
(continued) :
To engage P or R , press the rel ease
button. The en gine can o nly be
started with the lever in position P
or N . When position N is selected,
depress brake pedal o r apply
parking brake before s tarting.
Do not accele rate while eng aging a
gear. N ever depr ess the
accelerator and brake pedal at the
same time.
When a gear is engaged, the
vehicle slowly begins to creep when
the brake is released .
Automatic transmission,
Manual mode:
Move selector lever to position M
then press the app ropriate button
on the top of the selector lever to
change gear.
< = Shift to a higher gear
] = Shift to a lower ge ar
The mode or selected gea r is shown
in the transmission display.
If a higher gear is sele cted when
vehicle spee d is too low, o r a lower
gear is selected whe n vehicle speed
is too high, the shift is not execu ted.
This can cause a me ssage in the
Driver-Info-Di splay.
In manual mode, no automatic
shifting to a higher gear takes
place at high engine revolutions.
Starting the engine:
Turn key to position 1
Move steeri ng wheel sligh tly to
release steer ing wheel lock
Manual trans mission in neutral
with clutch depressed
Automatic transmission in P or N
with brake ped al depressed
Do not accelerate
Diesel engines : turn key to
positio n 2 for preheating and
wait for ! to extinguish
Turn key to 3 and release

position 3 - the Automatic Starter
Control ensures that the sys tem will
go on starting automatically until
the engine is ru nning. Because of
the checking procedure, the engine
starts running after a short delay.
Stop-Start syste m:
When condition s allow, the syste m
switches off the en gine to save fu el
and reduce emi ssion levels if the
vehicle is at a low speed o r at a
standstill, e.g. a t traffic lig hts or in a
traffic jam. It starts the engine as
soon as the clutch is depressed .
To activate an Autostop:
Depress clutch pedal
Shift selector lever to neutr al
Release the clutch pedal
The needle po ints to AUTO STOP in
the tachometer. To restart en gine,
depress clutch agai n.
Deactivate Stop-Start system
manually by pressing the
eco
button on the instrument panel.
The LED in the button extinguishes
to confir m deactivation.
Opening the bonnet:
To open the bonnet, pull the
release lever lo cated below the
instrument panel on the driver’s
side.
The bonnet will th en be unlocked
and will partial ly open. Return
release leve r to its orig inal position .
To open completely, push the
safety catch to the right and open
the bonnet.
Parking bra ke:
To release parking br ake, rais e
lever slightly , press relea se button
and lower leve r fully.
Always apply parking b rake firmly
without operati ng the releas e
button and apply as firmly as
possible on an uphill or d ownhill
slope.
To reduce the ope rating for ces of
the parking brake, dep ress the
brake pedal at the same time.
Unlocking and opening tailgate :
Press butt on c on r emote con trol to
unlock the ta ilgate.
Push the touchpad switch below
the tailgate moulding to open.
Closing and locking tailga te:
Use interior handle on the
underside of the tailgate to close.
Do not push the touchpad swi tch
below the tailgate mould ing or the
brand emblem wh ilst closing or it
will unlock again.
Press button e on remo te control to
lock.
Pull up bonnet support ro d from its
holder and secure it in the hook o n
the underside o f the bonnet, on the
left-hand side .
If the bonnet is opened duri ng an
Autostop, the eng ine will be
restarted automatically, for safety
reasons.
Closing the bonnet:
Replace the bon net support rod in
its holder. Lower the bonnet a nd
allow it to drop into the catch.
Check that the bonnet is engaged.
Refuel ling:
Before refuelling , switch off engine
and any external heaters with
combustion chambers (identified
by sticker on fuel fi ller flap).
Switch off any mobile phone s.
Fuel filler flap is located a t right
rear side of vehicle.
The fuel fi ller flap can on ly be
opened if the vehi cle is unlocke d.
Release the fuel fille r flap by
pushing the flap .
To open, turn the f uel filler cap
slowly to the left.
The fuel filler cap can be retai ned in
the bracket on th e fuel filler flap.
For refuelling , fully insert the pu mp
nozzle and sw itch it on.
After the automatic cut-off, it can
be topped-up with a maximum two
doses of f uel.
Wipe off any overfl owing fuel
immediately.
To close, replace fue l filler cap and
turn to the right until it clicks.
Close the fuel fil ler flap and allo w it
to engage.
Petrol engines - use unleaded f uel
meeting specificati ons of
DIN EN 228.
Diesel engi nes - use d iesel fue l
meeting specificati ons of
DIN EN 590.
Fuel tank capacity (all models) -
53 litres, except A17D TS (52 litres).
Engine oi l:
Check engine oi l level manuall y on a regular b asis to prevent da mage to engine. Ensure that the co rrect
specification o f oil is us ed.
Check with vehicl e on a level surfa ce. Engine must b e at operating te mperature and switched off for at least
5 minutes.
Pull out dipstick, wipe clean, insert to st op on the hand le, pull out an d read engine oil level.
Insert dipstick to stop on handle and mak e half a turn .
Importan t:
It is the owner’s responsibility to maintain the correct level of an appropriate quali ty oil in the engine.
Do not allow the engine oil l evel to drop belo w the minimum leve l!
Tyre pressure:
Check tyre pressures, i ncluding the spare, every 14 days and prior to any long journey; tyres should be
checked when cold. This also appl ies to vehicles with tyre pressu re monitor ing system.
The tyre pressure data refers to cold tyres. It applies to summer and wi nter tyr es.
Always inflate the spare tyre to the va lue specified for full load .
The ECO tyre press ure serves to ac hieve the smalles t amount of fu el consumption possible.
Incorrect tyre press ures will imp air safety, vehicl e handling, co mfort and fue l economy an d increase tyre
wear.
