Winter break
Note the following points
when storing the mower for
long periods:
• Carefully clean all external
parts of the engine and
mower, in particular the
cooling ribs.
• Thoroughly lubricate /
grease all moving parts.
• Empty fuel tank and
carburettor (e.g. by running
empty).
Unscrew spark plug and
pour approx. 3 cm
3
of
engine oil into the engine
via the spark plug hole.
Turn the engine several
times with the spark plug
removed.
Caution:
• Keep the spark plug socket
away from the spark plug
hole due to danger of
ignition. Re-install the spark
plug and store the lawn
mower in a dry, dust-free
room in the normal
position.
• Cover the engine well and
store the lawn mower in a
dry, dust-free room in the
normal position.
• Perform oil change.
Maintainance of the
blade brake clutch
The blade brake clutch is
subject to natural wear. In
order to fulfil its function,
regular maintenance and
servicing work must be
performed on the BBC by
trained personnel (e.g.
VIKING customer service)
in the following intervals:
Professional use:
every six months
(commercial use of the
mower)
Private use: annually
The starter battery is
maintenance-free and is
charged automatically during
operation.
If discharging should occur
(engine starting problems),
the battery must be recharg-
ed without delay. The charg-
ing time is approx. 48 hours.
Only use the original battery
charger supplied.
The battery manufacturer's
regulations must be observed.
CAUTION
Risk of injury.
Observe the specified
torque of 45-55 Nm when
tightening the blade
fastening screws, as the
secure attachment of the
cutting tool depends on
this.
Installing the mowing
blade
Risk of injury!
Always wear gloves.
MB 450 M, MB 455 M:
Engage the upper blade
(24a) in the lower blade
(24b) as illustrated. For
this purpose, ensure that
the bores in both blades
are aligned.
Install
24= mowing blade with the
curved edges pointing
upwards.
For installation, use a
25= wooden block (approx.
60 x 60 mm) to counter-
hold the mowing blade.
Tighten the
26= blade fastening screw(s)
with
27= retaining washer (not
required on MB 455 BC)
to a torque of 45-55 Nm.

Sharpening the
mowing blade
The following points must be
observed when re-sharpening
the mowing blade:
• Cool the mowing blade
when sharpening, e.g. with
water. The blade must not
be allowed to display blue
colouring, as this would
reduce its cutting quality.
• Sharpen blades evenly to
prevent vibration due to
imbalance.
CAUTION
Check blade for damage
before installing. The blade
must be replaced if
notches or cracks are
detected, or if the blades
are sharpened back by
5 mm (wear limit).
