7. UPGRADE WITH AN ELECTRIC MOTOR?
ANSMANN provides electric drive systems within its wide range of products
to build electric motor supported bicycles / EPAC-Bikes (Electrically Power
Assisted Cycle), also called Pedelecs (this term consists of the words pedal,
electric and cycle). These drive systems include all necessary parts to build
these types of bicycles. The Components for the electric drive system are
selected to fit to the most common bicycle frames and sizes.
Possibilities
With wide range of bicycle parts, all bicycle manufacturers are able to build
Pedelecs corresponding to all relevant safety regulations. For bicycle fitters
the ANSMANN electric motor retrofit system will allow a standard bicycle to
be upgraded to a Pedelec.
Safety and Risks
All bicycles which are modified to be Pedelec’s (no matter if by a bicycle ma-

the safety requirements in accordance to European jurisdiction. Appropriate
tests with these bicycles have to be made. The strength of the bicycle parts
