speakers
e A VR750/450/380 allows you to co nnect up to seven
speakers and an active s ubwoof er in the main system.
e out put cha nnels corres pond to speakers installed in
the fron t le, centre, fro nt right, surr ound le, surro und
right, surroun d back le, surround back righ t and an
act ive subwoofer .
e conguration and placement o f your speakers
is very important. All spe ak ers, with the exception o f
the subwoo fer , sh ould be arranged ar ound your n ormal
viewing/listening positio n. e subwoo fer should be
placed in a position which gives a n even frequency
response in all listenin g positions. I ncorrect placemen t
leads to bass boom in some ar eas. Oen the only
way to nd a g ood p os ition fo r your sub woofer is b y
experimentatio n. A good place to start experimenting
is close to a wall but a t least 1m awa y from an y corners.
Y ou ca n also consult yo ur subwoof er handbook for
placement suggestio ns.

Fr ont left and right
P osition yo ur front le a nd right speakers to
achieve a good stereo imag e for no rmal musical
repr oduction as well as fo r the multicha nnel
modes. If they are p laced too close together there
will be a lack of spaciousness; if they ar e placed
too far apart a ster eo image will appear to h ave a
large ‘ho le ’ in the middle and will be presen ted in
two halves. I f there is no practical alterna tive to
placing the speakers widely a part, this eect can
be overco me in music r eproduction b y using the
centre soun d extraction from the le and right
speakers (see Dolby Pro Logic II M usic mode).
Centr e
e centre s peaker allows for a mor e realistic
repr oduction of dialogue. e centre speaker
should ha ve a similar tonal balance to the fro nt
le and right speakers an d be positioned at a
similar height.
Surround left and right
e surround l e and right speakers rep roduce
the ambien t sound and e ects present in a
multichannel home cinema system and should b e
installed slightly higher than the listen er’ s ears.
Surround back left and right
e surround bac k le and right speakers
are used to add extra depth a nd better
sound localisation and s hould be installed
app roxim ately o ne metre higher than the
listener ’ s ears. Place the two surround
back speakers such tha t there is an ar c of
app roxim ately 150 degr ees between each
surround back s peaker and the centre speaker .
e surround bac k speakers should face the fron t
of the room as s hown in the diagram to p rovide
the largest ‘ sweet spot’ .
Subwoof er
A subw oofer will greatly im pro ve the bass performance of y our
system. is is useful for r eproducin g special cinema eects,
especially where a dedicated LFE (Low F requency Eects)
channel is a vailable , as with man y discs encoded with Dolby or
DTS te chnologies.
Mo re than on e subwoof er unit ma y be required for la rger
installations, pa rticu la rly in rooms o f a timber frame
construction. M ultiple su bwoofer s will require a spli tter cable
and need care in p lacement because there ma y be cancellation
eects between the units and yo u may req uire expert advice.
