and are they still in good shape (not

damaged)?

• Is the running area of the tyres worn

and do the tyres have any weak spots

or lumps? Is there sufﬁ cient pressure in

the tyres? See the information on the

side of the tyre for the correct pressure.

• Are the steering pin and the handle-

bars still ﬁ rmly tightened? Is there any

play in the headset?

• Are the grips damaged or are they

loose?

• Is the lighting working properly and

do the batteries need replacing?

• Is the dynamo ﬁ rmly ﬁ xed; does the

dynamo wheel slip on the tyre?

• Are the reﬂ ecting strips on the sides

of the tyres clean and easily visible in

the dark?

• Are all the gears still working pro-

perly?

• Are the reﬂ ectors on the pedals free

from dirt and are the pedals still rough

enough?

• Are the luggage carrier and the car-

rier straps still ﬁ rmly attached to the

bicycle?

• Is the child’s seat still ﬁ rmly attached

and are the protective measures for

the child (dress guards, footrests, etc.)

adequate?

• Is the chain correctly tensioned?

• Have components been mounted

on the bicycle at a later stage or have

changes been made to the frame

(brake system, couplings for trailers)?

Always have any additions or alterati-

ons checked by your Batavus dealer.

Rear hub axle nuts / Sachs 30-35 Nm

Rear hub axle nuts / Shimano 30-40 Nm

THEFT PREVENTION

THE CERTIFICATE OF OWNERSHIP

Batavus takes care of the registration

of all bicycles before they leave the

Batavus factory. The details (frame

number and Theft Prevention Chip

(DPC) number) are sent directly to the

Rai DataCentre (RDC) for linkage to

the RDW Centre for Vehicle Technology

and Information.

Remember to note down the key

number. If you lose both keys you can

order new ones on the basis of the key

number. Nowadays the lock number is

the same as the DPC number.

What you should do if, despite these

measures, your bicycle is stolen:

1. Always report the theft to the po-

lice.

2. ALWAYS take your Certiﬁ cate of

Ownership and all the relevant details

concerning your bicycle (which you

receive when you purchase it) with you.

3. The police can link your nationally-

registered bicycle to your personal

details and record the bicycle as having

been stolen.

4. If you have insured your bicycle you

must also inform your insurance com-

pany of the theft.

If you wish to make a claim under the

Batavus guarantee, you must always be

able to submit the sales receipt and the

Certiﬁ cate of Ownership to the dealer

and/or Batavus B.V.

A GOOD LOCK

Most Batavus bicycles are equipped

with an “armoured” safety lock. If you
