Introduction
Congratulations on your pur chase of a high-quality MP A power
amplifier . By selecting the MP A 3, y ou have c hosen a product whic h
delivers superlative repr oduction quality . Whether you are upgra-
ding an existing system or using the MP A power amplifier in a new
system, you are certain to notice immediate perf ormance benefits!
Recommendation:
A power amplifier’ s perf ormance is only as good as its installation. Pro-
per installation will maximise the ov erall perf ormance of your audio sy-
stem. W e recommend that y ou ha ve our product installed prof essionally .
Should you decide to install the amplifier y ourself , howe v er , please read
through these instructions carefully , and take your time o ver the
installation. Finally , a word about your health: please bear in mind when
playing m usic in y our car that sustained sound le vels abo ve 100 dB can
damage your hearing and ma y e ven result in total hearing loss. Moder n
high-performance systems and high-quality loudspeaker configur ations
are quite capable of generating noise levels above 130 dB.
Safety precautions
Instructions for installation and connection
Fit a fuse in the amplifier power line no more than 30 cm from the v ehic-
le batter y , in order to protect the battery in the ev ent of a shor t-circuit
between it and the pow er amplifier . The amplifier’ s own fuse protects
the amplifier itself, b ut not the car battery . Disconnect the negative
terminal of the battery before carrying out installation and connec-
tion work.
Observe the vehicle manuf acturer’ s safety instructions (regarding air-
bags, alarm systems, trip computers, vehicle immobilisers).
The final stage must be installed prof essionally f or reasons of saf ety .
The mounting surface m ust be suitab le for the scre ws provided, and
must provide firm suppor t.
When drilling holes, take care to a void damage to v ehicle components
(batter y , cables, fuse bo xes).
Fit the amplifier in a suitable location, e .g. beneath the seats or in the
trunk (Fig. 1). The mounting location must also be dr y , and provide suf-
ficient ventilation f or cooling of the amplifier . Use cab le grommets when
passing cables through holes with sharp edges. Use loudspeak ers with
an impedance of 2 to 4 Ω . Observe the max. po w er handling specifica-
tions (music output). Do not connect the loudspeak ers to g round; only
use the terminals provided. The cross-section of the positiv e and nega-
tive cab le must be at least 6 mm

MP A 3 amplifier
The amplifier is suitable f or connection to car radios with Cinch
connector .Use the Blaupunkt ISO Cinc h adapter to connect the am-
plifier to car radios with ISO connector . (7 607 893 093 / 7 607 855

. Run a
standard commercial positive cab le to the battery and connect to the
fuse holder . Use cab le g rommets when passing cables through holes
with shar p edges. Bolt a standard commercial negative cab le to a ground
point free of induced noise (car body bolt, body panel) - not to the nega-
tive battery pole. Clean the contact surf ace of the g round point down to
bare metal and coat with antiseize gr aphite petroleum.
Integral fuses
The integral fuses within the amplifier protect the final stage and the
entire electrical system in the ev ent of a fault. Ne ver bridge fuses or
replace fuses with a higher current rating.
Example connections

Connection to car radios with loudspeaker output ....................... Fig. 7
Loudspeaker connections ...................................................... Figs. 3- 6
Connect remote amplifier connection to switchable
+12 V power source.
This enables the amplifier to be s witched on and off with the radio’ s On/
Off switch.
High-level inputs
The amplifier is equipped with high-le vel inputs to permit connection to
radios without preamp outputs (Fig. 7). This enables direct connection
to be made to the radio’ s loudspeak er output.
Gain control
The gain control enables the input sensitivity of the final stage to be
matched to the output voltage of y our car radio preamp output. The ran-
ge of adjustment e xtends from 0.3 V to 5 V .
Adjust the input sensitivity in accordance with the manuf acturer’ s speci-
fications when connecting the amplifier to other radios.
Important: T urning the gain control clockwise increases the input sen-
sitivity of the amplifier , and thereb y also the v olume. The gain control is
how ev er not a volume control; an increase in volume is not achiev ed in
the maximum position, e v en if this subjectively appears to be the case.
The system merely increases the volume more quic kly when the v olu-
me is turned up on the radio.
Loudspeaker connections
(If the amplifier is to be connected in a bridged mode, proceed with the
section “Bridged loudspeaker connections”.)
As with any audio component, connection of the amplifier and speak ers
with the correct polarity is essential for good bass reproduction. Ensure
theref ore when connecting that the positive (+) amplifier terminal is con-
nected to the positive (+) loudspeak er terminal. The same applies to the
negative (-) terminals. The left-hand amplifier channel m ust also be con-
nected to the left-hand loudspeaker and the right-hand amplifier chan-
nel to the right-hand loudspeaker .
Bridged loudspeaker connections
The MP A can also be bridged in a mono configuration. This enab les you
to use the amplifier f or one or more subwoof er(s) or a mid-range spea-
ker . In this configuration the amplifier sums the right-hand and left-hand
channels, deliv ering a single channel (mono) output.
Note: The amplifier can sum the right- and left-hand signal inf ormation
only if both the right- and left-hand RCA connections hav e been made.
CAUTION: The amplifier must be presented with a load of 4 Ohms
or higher in bridged mode. A lower load will cause the amplifier to
overheat or switch off. This can lead to permanent damage of the
unit.
Adjustment of the type and range of the cross-over frequencies.
MP A 3
The type of crossov er (i.e. “low-pass” or “hi-pass”) and the desired cros-
sov er frequency can be selected on the MP A 3. If , f or e xample, y ou wish
to drive a pair of subwoof ers, connect in accordance with the lo w-pass
diagram. The crosso ver frequency is dependent upon the loudspeak er
frequency range (consult the loudspeak er manuf acturer’ s data f or the
recommended frequency range).
“High- Pass” frequency contr ol
This control is activ e when the switch is in the “Hi-pass” position, and
permits selection of the desired crossover frequency . Example: at a set-
ting of 250 Hz, the loudspeaker has a frequency r ange of 250 Hz to
50 kHz.
“Low-pass” frequency control
This control is active when the s witch is set to “Lo w-pass” and permits
selection of the desired crossov er frequency . Example: at a setting of 50
Hz, the loudspeaker has a frequency r ange of 50 Hz to 20 Hz.
