Many common problems are caused by the telephone and
power cables being incorrectly connected, not connected at all
or, the power being switched off. Please check that your BT
Freelance 501 has been correctly set up (see page 4).
No display
• The batteries may be flat or dead, see page 5.
No dial tone
• Check the telephone line cord is plugged into the wall socket.
• Check the base station is connected to the mains power and on.
You cannot link up with the base station
• Is flashing in the display? Move closer to the base.
• Check the mains power is connected and switched on.
• Are the batteries low or flat? Recharge or replace batteries.
No ring on the handset
• Check base is plugged into the phone socket and power is on.
• Make sure ringer volume is set correctly, see page 21.
Buzzing noise on my radio, TV, computer or hearing aid
• Try to place your phone at least 1m away from electrical
appliances to avoid any risk of interference.
The handset is not charging properly
• Check the power adaptor is plugged into the base/charger and
is the correct one.
• Make sure your handset is sitting correctly in the base/charger.
• Check the batteries are inserted correctly into the handset.
• Check the base is plugged into a working mains power socket
and the power is on.
