Installing the battery
1. Insert the battery into the battery holder on the Pedelec from the left hand
side whilst tilting it at an angle of about 45° to the outside.
2. The guides on the side of the battery at the bottom must be inserted in the
mating guides in the holder.
3. Tilt the battery towards the bicycle until it latches in place. If the key is still
inserted in the lock, it may need to be turned and removed in order to do this.
4. Check that the battery is seated tightly.
4. The control unit
The control unit on the handlebar
has three buttons; there is a display
with three LEDs adjacent to the
‘Power’ button and another one adjacent
to the ‘Mode’ button.
The motor assistance is switched on and off by the ‘Power’ button. The LEDs adja-
cent to this button show the battery charge level.
All three LEDs light up for two seconds after switching on.
If all three LEDs are lit after that, this means that the battery charge level
is 70 to 100 %.
If two LEDs are lit after that, this means that the battery charge level
is 40 to 70 %.
If only one LEDs is lit after that, this means that the battery charge level
is 10 to 40 %.
If the lowest LED blinks slowly after that, this means that the battery charge
level is less than 10 %. You may now notice a slight loss of power.
If the lowest LED blinks rapidly, this means that the battery is flat.
The system will switch off shortly.
The motor assistance level can be set using the ‘Mode’ button. The LEDs adjacent
to this button show the current level of motor assistance. All three LEDs light up for
two seconds after switching on.
While the system is starting up, the force sensor continually adjusts itself in order
to be able to precisely control the input of force from the motor. That is why the
load on the pedals should not change. In fact, you can pedal very lightly or very
evenly. Or simply stop pedalling for two seconds. After that, the middle assistance
level is automatically set.
All three LEDs light up at the highest level of assistance.
The assistance works at a ratio of 1:1.3.
The two lower LEDs light up at the middle level of assistance.
The assistance works at a ratio of 1:1.
Only the lowest LED lights up at the weakest level of assistance.
The assistance works only weakly at a ratio of 1:0.5.
The level of motor assistance advances by one level every time the ‘Mode’ button
is pressed. If the highest level has been reached, the assistance will switch to the
weakest level next time the button is pressed and will then increase again.
Switching the light on and off
The light is switched on and off using
the button shown on the right.
The light is powered by current from the battery.
The motor functions without freewheeling in order to recharge the battery. This
means that it always turns with the wheel. If the motor assistance is not in use, or
if you are travelling faster than 25 km/h, then the motor charges up the battery
like a dynamo. This charging is sufficient to supply the lights with electricity, but
not to recharge the battery for driving.
Since the motor always turns with the wheel, you will notice a slight vibration
when pushing the bicycle slowly. This does not cause any damage and the rolling
resistance increases only slightly, similar to when using a hub dynamo.
If you are riding with the light switched on and you switch off the assistance, you
must switch on the light again so that it illuminates! It will otherwise switch off
together with the assistance.
So that the light can work, it is compulsory for the battery to be fitted,
even if you are intending to ride without assistance.
5. Electrical assistance
