Hex wrench storage (Fig. 12)
When not in use, the hex wrench can be conveniently
stored.
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the bat-
tery cartridge is removed before any adjustment is
attempted.
Adjusting depth of cut (Fig. 13)
Loosen the lever on the depth guide and move the base
up or down. At the desired depth of cut, secure the base
by tightening the lever.
CAUTION:
Use a shallow depth of cut when cutting thin work-
pieces for cleaner, safer cuts.
After adjusting the depth of cut, always tighten the lever
securely.
Bevel cutting (Fig. 14 & 15)
Loosen the clamp screws in front and back. Set for the
desired angle (0°–50°) by tilting accordingly, then tighten
the clamp screws securely.
Use the 45° stopper when you do precise 45° angle cut-
ting. Turn the lever clockwise fully for bevel cuts (0°–45°)
and turn it counterclockwise for 0°–50° bevel cuts.
Adjusting for accuracy of 90° and 45° cut
(vertical and 45° cut) (Fig.16&17)
This adjustment has been made at the factory. But if it is
off, adjust the adjusting screws with a screwdriver while
inspecting 90° or 45° the blade with the base using a tri-
angular rule or square rule etc.
CAUTION:
After adjusting the depth of cut and bevel cutting angle,
be sure to tighten the lever on the depth guide and the
clamp screws in front and back.
Sighting (Fig. 18)
For straight cuts, align the right notch in the front of the
base with your cutting line on the workpiece. For 45°
bevel cuts, align the left notch with it.
Switch action (Fig. 19)
CAUTION:
Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool, always
check to see that the switch trigger actuates properly and
returns to the OFF position when released.
To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentally
pulled, a lock-off button is provided.
To start the tool, depress the lock-off button and pull the
switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.
Operation (Fig. 20)
Hold the tool firmly. Set the base plate on the workpiece
to be cut without the blade making any contact. Then turn
the tool on and wait until the blade attains full speed.
Now simply move the tool forward over the workpiece
surface, keeping it flat and advancing smoothly until the
sawing is completed. To get clean cuts, keep your sawing
line straight and your speed of advance uniform.
CAUTION:
Always insert the battery cartridge all the way until it
locks in place. If you can see the red part on the upper
side of the button, it is not locked completely. Insert it
fully until the red part cannot be seen. If not, it may
accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to you or
someone around you.
When operating overhead, always make sure the bat-
tery cartridge is locked securely so that it will not be
fallen out of the tool. If not, it may accidentally fall out of
the tool, causing injury to you or someone around you.
The riving knife should always be used except when
plunging in the middle of the workpiece.
Do not stop the saw blade by lateral pressure on the
disc.
Always gently keep the tool moving straight ahead
when cutting. Forcing or twisting the tool will result in
overheating of the motor and dangerous kickback, pos-
sibly causing severe injury.
If the tool is operated continuously until the battery car-
tridge has discharged, allow the tool to rest for 15 min-
utes before proceeding with a fresh battery.
Rip fence (guide rule) (Fig. 21)
The handy rip fence (guide rule) allows you to do extra-
accurate straight cuts. Simply slide the rip fence up
snugly against the side of the workpiece and secure it in
position with the clamp screw on the front of the base. It
also makes repeated cuts of uniform width possible.
Dust nozzle (Fig. 22 & 23)
When you wish to perform clean cutting operation, con-
nect a vacuum cleaner to your tool. Install the joint on the
tool using the screws. Then connect a hose of vacuum
cleaner to the joint.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the bat-
tery cartridge is removed before carrying out any work on
the tool.
Replacement of carbon brushes (Fig. 24 & 25)
Replace carbon brushes when they are worn down to the
limit mark. Both identical carbon brushes should be
replaced at the same time.
To maintain product safety and reliability, repairs, mainte-
nance or adjustment should be carried out by a Makita
Authorized Service Center.
