You oan check what is
going
onto
the tape by
listening-in during recording
through
headphones
connected to socket ©.
To suppress the annoying whistle tone which
may
occur when recording stereo radio transmis-
sions,
this recorder is provided
with
a
pilot-tone
suppression
filter.
When recording such program-
mes,
you can switch on this
filter
by pressing in
switch @. Switch off this
filter
during playback.
As well as the FM
pilot-tone
suppression
filter,
switch @ is also used for a RIF circuit (Radio
Interference Filter).
This
filter
suppresses whistles
which may occur when recording broadcasts in the
medium or long wave band.
Such
whistles may
occur
particularly when the recorder is stacked
with
other components of a
HIFI
chain, i.e. above or
below a tuner or tuner/amplifier.
The
RIF
circuit operates in
both
positions of switch
@;
if a whistle occurs the switch is pushed to the
other position.
When making microphone recordings, always
disconnect the other sources
trom
the recorder in
order to avoid undesired mixing of signals. Discon-
nection may be effected e.g. by switching off the
mains
supply of the amplifier when recording
trom
microphone(s) etc.
Similarly,
during the making of other types of
recordings, no microphones must be connected.
To
prevent unwanted noise being recorded, soek-
ets
not in use should not be touched during
recording.
Recording
Connect the sound source
from
which you wish
to record to the appropriate socket.
Insert a cassette.
Press
in the corresponding tape selector.
Switch on the Dolby system, if desired.
Press
pause key @.
Press
record key @ and start key @ at the same
time.
The red recording indicator @ now lights.
Allow the equipment connected to play, or speak
or sing
info
the microphone and adjust the record-
ing level
with
controls
(g)
and
(g)
in such a way that,
during the loudest
passages,
the pointers of the
recording level meters @ and @ deflect just
info
the red
area.
Should the overload indicator @flash
repeatedly, reduce the recording level slightly
with
controls
(g)
and/or@. Differences in the recording
level
between the
left
right
channels can be cor-
rected by setting controls @ and @ to different
positions.
Now start recording by pressing pause key @.
Check
the recording level
from
time to time and
readjust it (gradually) if
necessary.
For brief interruptions press pause key @.
To stop, press stop key @.
For fast rewinding press rewind key @. For tast
winding, press wind key®. To stop, press stop key

Playback
The
recordings made can be reproduced
through
headphones and/or
through
an amplifier/speaker
system.
Connect the headphones and/or an amplifier to
the appropriate socket (see 'Connecttons').
Set the amplifier for recorder playback.
Insert a recorded cassette.
Press
the corresponding tape selector.
Switch on the Dolby system, if
necessary.
Press
start key @.
Adjust the volume, tone and balance on the
amplifier.
The volume when playing back via headphones is
constant.
To stop, press stop key @.
N.B.:
During playback, the pointers of the meters@
and @ will deflect in the same manner as they did
during recording.
Depending on the kind of tape in the cassette which
is
used,
the deflection during playback may differ
from
the deflection when the same part was
recorded.
This
has no influence on the quality of the
sound.

Review
and cue
This
recorder incorporates a special mechanism
which offers the possibility to switch over
from
recording or playback to fast rewind or fast wind
directly
without
stopping the tape in between.
After a recording:
Press
one of the
keys
@ or @
until
the desired part of the recording has been
located
with
help of counter @.
After releasing the pressed key, the recorder
changes
over to playback automatically, because
the record key disengages when pressing one of
the
keys
@ or @.
During playback:
Press
one of the
keys
@ or @
until
the desired part of the recording has been
located.
After releasing the pressed key, the
recorder starts to playback again automatically.
Maintenance
The
audio quality can be adversely affected by the
dust and grime which tend to accumulate on the
magnetic heads. It is therefore advisable to clean
the heads
from
time to time, for which purpose we
recommend our special cleaning cassette, type
811/CCT.
