The fire-fighters should wear protective clothing and self-contained breat hing
apparatus when fighting the fire. Take note of t he wind direction. Burning lithium-ion
batteries can produce toxic fumes, including hydrogen fluoride, carbon oxides,
aluminium, lithium, copper and cobalt. Volatile phosphorus pentafluoride can form at
temperatures above 110°C.
Remove the batteries from the fire area as far as this is possible without hazard.
Once the fire has been brought under control successfully, the area must be
monitored and cleared up by trained personnel with the respective equipment . Fire
residue must be cleaned up and disposed of in line with the regulations.
After successful fire-fighting
Once the area to be monitored has been cleaned up by trained and respectively
equipped personnel, the residue must be cleaned up and disposed of in line with
the regulations.

Use and treatme nt of lithium- ion batterie s for manua lly guided lawn mowers:
When used normally and disposed of properly, there is no risk of the battery
releasing hazardous substances or damaging the environment.
The battery must be disposed of separately af ter use, since it contains hazardous
chemicals. See “Disposal”.
• Only charge the battery in chargers recommended by John Deere or SABO. If
a charger which is suitable for a specific battery type is used with other
batteries, there is a fire hazard.
• Only insert the prescribed batteries in the motor. The use of other batteries can
lead to injuries or a fire.
• Keep unused batteries away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or
other small metal objects which could lead to bridging of the contacts. A short-
circuit between the battery contacts and/or charging contact s on the charger
can lead to burns or fires.
• Check contacts on charger, battery and tool for damage and corrosion. Clean
properly if necessary.
• If not used properly, liquid can leak from the battery. Avoid cont act with the
battery. If you come into contact with the liquid accidentally, rinse with water
immediately. If this liquid gets into your eyes, you must consult a doctor.
Leaking liquid can lead to skin irritation or burns.
• Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuit.
• Protect the battery from heat such as sust ained sunshine and fires. There is a
risk of explosion.
• If the battery is damaged and not used properly, fumes can escape. Go out
into the fresh air and consult a doctor. The fumes can irritate the respiratory
system.
• Faulty batteries can leak and battery acid can get onto t he surrounding parts.
Check the parts affected. Clean or replace if necessary.
• The battery should be operated in a temperature range of between 7° and
40°C. If the battery is exposed to ext reme temperatures, the battery can
become damaged permanently.
Purpose:
• The lithium-ion battery has been exclusively designed for use on the manually
guided lawn mower and may only be used for this purpose.
• John Deere or SABO do not accept any liability for damage caused by
improper use.
• Only use John Deere or SABO original spare parts. John Deere or SABO do
not accept any liability for damage caused by the use of third-party
components or non-authorised accessories.
Read all warnin gs and in structions.
If these safety warnings and instruct ions are not followed, electric shocks, fi res
and/or serious injuries can occur.
Charging the battery f or operation:
• The battery is delivered part-charged. Charge the mower battery completely
before using it for the first time. The lithium-ion battery can be recharged at any
time. Interrupting the charging process does not damage t he battery.
NOTE!
Wrong handling can lead to an expl osion or fire. Store batter ies out of the
reach of children.
Have maintenance, servicing and r epairs carried out by a John Deere or
SABO dealer specialised for this mower.
Storage:
• Store batteries safely. Keep away from children. A short-circuit can lead to
fires, breakage and leaks of the batt ery.
• The battery must be stored in a cool, dry and well ventilated room, protected
from humidity, sources of heat and naked flames. Extreme temperatures can
lead to the battery bursting and leaking.
• Storage temperature range: 0°C to +20°C.
• Do not store the battery near food and beverages.
• Keep batteries far enough away from walls.
• Batteries are fragile – handle with care, do not throw or drop them.
• If the battery is stored for a long time, it must be charged for 2 hours every two
months.

• The battery fulfils the requirements of the UN Manual ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev. 4.
Part III, Sub-section 38.3.
• Nevertheless, the battery must be protected against vibration and secured
against motion during transport.
• Make sure that the packaging is not damaged during transport. If the
packaging is damaged, it must be checked, and the bat teries must be
repacked if necessary to avoid a short-circuit. A short-circuit can lead t o fires,
breakage and leaks of the battery.
• Batteries are fragile – handle with care, do not throw or drop them.
• Generally speaking, lithium-ion batteries are classified as dangerous goods
and are subject to the transport and packaging requirements of legislat ion
governing dangerous goods.
Transport in compliance wit h dangerous goods regulations:
• Transport by road / rail / ship / air (ADR / RID / IMDG code / IATA-DGR)
• Transport the battery in compliance with UN 3480 Lithium-ion battery, Cl. 9.
