OPERATION
On/O󰀨 and Volume Control [On/O󰀨 /Vol] (7)
Switch on the radio by turning the rotary volume selector (7) clockwise. To
adjust a comfortable volume level, deactivate the squelch temporarily (see
section Squelch) and set the volume level.
Keylock [AM/FM] (1)
Activate/deactivate the keylock function by pressing the mode key [AM/FM]
(1) until the keylock symbol appears/disappears in the LCD.
With activated keylock, only the transmission key [PTT] (1) can be operated.
All other keys are deactivated.
Squelch [SQ/AQ] (2)
The typical, permanent frequency noise on a channel that is present when no
carrier is present, can be suppressed with the squelch function.
The radio is equipped with an automatic squelch (AQ) and a manual squelch
(SQ).
A long press of the squelch key [SQ/AQ] (2), switches between the manual
squelch SQ and the automatic squelch AQ. Only the automatic squelch mode
is indicated in the LCD. In active AQ mode, the letters AQ are displayed.
Both squelch modes can be adjusted. After switching the squelch mode, the
function remains for a few seconds in set-mode, the current value is indicated
in the display. To access the set-mode in the current squelch mode, press the
key shortly.
In set-mode, the value can be changed with the channel selector keys of the
microphone or the radio, the value can be changed. For the SQ mode, you
can select the values 1-34 or OFF; the AQ mode can be set in the range 1-9.
Your selection is automatically conrmed by leaving the set-mode. This hap-
pens automatically after 5 seconds or can be done by pressing the transmis-
sion key [PTT] (1).
For the automatic squelch (AQ), we recommend the preset, middle-value.
To set the best, current squelch level, lower the value until you hear the
frequency noise. Then, increase the value until the squelch lters the noise.
In some cases, the squelch opens temporarily and the frequency noise is
audible. In this case, increase the squelch by one level or more.
If the squelch level is too high, weaker signals are ltered and they cannot be
heard in the speaker.
Channel Selection [p] / [q]
For the channel selection use the channel selectors Up [p] or Down [q] at
the radio or at the microphone. The LCD displays the channel number and the
frequency.
Please note that in transmission mode, the channel cannot be switched. Also,
be aware that di󰀨erent stations have to use the same channel (frequency)
and the same operating mode (AM/FM), to be able to communicate with each
other.
Mode Selection [ AM/FM ] (1)
The VX-2412 operates in amplitude (AM) and frequency modulation (FM).
Please note, that the frequency norm CE operates in FM only.
You can toggle between AM and FM by pressing the mode key [AM/FM] (1)
shortly. The active mode (AM/FM) is indicated in the LCD.
Please note: with the frequency norm UK, you switch between CEPT frequen-
cies (EU: AM/FM) and UK frequencies (FM only) with a triple switch. The EU
frequencies are indicated with the symbol U and the UK frequencies with the
symbol UK.
Frequency Norm Selection
The VX-2412 can be set to one of the following frequency norms. It is in the
obligation of the user to select the correct frequency norm that is permitted in
the current area.

To change the current frequency norm, hold the AM/FM key (1) while turning
the radio on. The current norm symbol (see above) will blink in the LCD. Make
your selection with the channel selectors and conrm your selection by turning
the radio o󰀨.
Regarding the permissions and restrictions of the individual norms
in the various European countries, please check the radio passport,
which is included in the scope of delivery. The user is solely respon-
