T o ensu re the correct use of the grinder and to prev ent accide nts, do not star t working
without having rea d this man ual careful ly .
The manual explains how the various c omponents work and provides instruc tions
for car rying out t he necessa ry checks a nd maintena nce
operati ons.
1. SAF ETY RULE S AND PRECA UTIO NS

Any mainten ance operation not descr ibed in this manual must only be carried
out by an AUTHORI ZED service center .

1 - USERS. The grinder must only be used by adults. Users must be in good physical
conditi on and fami liar with the instruc tions for
use.

3 - WEAR PROPER APP AREL. Never wear loose clothi ng, bracelets, neckti es, rings

4 - AL W A YS USE SAFETY GLASSES OR F ACE SCREEN. Always wear gloves and
protect ive eyewear while operating the grinder and while retouching the wheel using
the dressing stone. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operatio n is dusty . Everyday
eyeglas ses only ha ve impact resistant l enses, they are NOT safety g lasses.
5 - NEVER STOP THE WH EEL WITH Y OUR HA NDS. Never at tempt to stop the
rotatio n of the gr inding whe el with you r hands.
6 - DISC ONNE CT TO OLS before servic ing. Make sure the plug is disco nnect ed when
tting or changing the grinding wheel and during any other operation of mainten ance
or tran sport.
7 - KEEP G UARDS IN PLACE AND IN WORKING O RDER. Nev er start the grin der
without the wheel guards in place.
8 - RE MOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRE NCHES. Make sure that keys and
adjusti ng wrenches are remov ed from too l before tu rning it o n.
9 - DON’T FORCE TOOL. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it
was des igned. Each grinder h as a plate indicating:
- size of arbor: Ø .866” (22 mm)
- no-lo ad speed in revolutio ns per minu te: RPM 340 0

Also m ake sure that the voltage a nd frequen cy indica ted on th e plate a pplied to the
grinder correspond to those of the main s hook-up.
10 - RE DUCE THE RISK OF UNINTENTION AL ST ARTI NG. Always make sure that
the start-up switch is in the “0” (OFF) positi on before connecting the plug to the outlet.

12 - REMOVE THE PLUG from the mains immediately if the cable is damaged or
cut; for cable repair or replacement , contact your authorize d dealer or service center .
The p ower sup ply cabl e is c omplete with termin als - with protec tion. The inter nal
electri cal connectio n consists of inse rting the feedi ng cable termina ls directly in the
switch. The elec trical connection to the mai ns sh all b e mad e in such a way as to
prevent damages by pe oples or vehicles which could e ndanger both the m and you.
13 - KEE P WORK AREA CLEAN. C luttered are as and benc hes invite a ccidents.
Make sure that the working area of the grinding wheel is free of tools or other objects
before starting up the grind er . Frequen tly clean grinding du st from ben eath grind er .
14 - DON’T USE IN DANGEROU S EN VIRONMENT . Don’t use power tools in damp
or wet locations, or expose them to rai n. Keep wor k area wel l lighted.
15 - CHECK THE POSI TION OF THE CA BLE DURIN G OPERA TION, makin g sure
that it rem ains ou tside the range of action of the grinding wheel and is not un der
tension . Never ope rate in th e vicinity of other el ectrical c ables.
16 - D IRECTION OF FEED. Feed work into a blade o r cut ter against the directio n of
rotatio n of the blade o r cutte r only . Never advan ce the chain with your left ha nd unt il
the gri nding wheel has moved entirely o utside the work area.
17 - MAKE WORK SHOP KID PR OOF with padloc ks, master swit ches. Do not also
allow anybody but the u ser to remain in t he vicinity of t he grinder while it is operating
or to t ouch the gr inder supp ly cable.
18 - AL WA YS KEEP THE HAND -GRIPS CLE AN AND DR Y .
19 - Before starting the grinder , MAKE SURE THA T THE GRINDING WHEEL IS
CORRECT L Y SECURED and outsid e the work area.
Do not overtighten the wheel nut.
20 - SECURE WORK. Make sure that the machine is stably secured, as shown in
Figure 1. Use the vise to ho ld chain. I t frees bot h
hands f or moving t he wheel d own to grin d the chain .
21 - DO N’T OVE RREACH. Kee p proper f ooting and balance at all times.
22 - NEVER S T AND ON TOOL. Always work in a stable and saf e position. Ser ious
injury could occur if the tool is tipped or if the cutting tool is uninten tionally contacted.
23 - AL WA YS FOLLOW THE INSTR UCTIONS for maintenanc e.
24 - CHECK D AMAGED P ARTS. Before us ing the grinder , check to make sure th at
all the devices, those for safety and others, are in good working order . A guard, a
wheel or o ther p art tha t is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it
will operate properly and perform its intented function - check for alignment of moving
parts, bindi ng of moving parts, breakage of parts, mountin g, and any other conditi ons
that may affect i ts operation . A guard, a w heel or othe r part that is damaged shou ld
be prop erly repair ed or imme diately rep laced.
25 - U SE R ECOM MEND ED AC CESS ORIE S. Co nsu lt th e own er ’s ma nua l for
reco mmende d access ories. The use of improp er acces sories may cause risk of injury
to persons. Use only anges furnished with the grinder . T o guarantee the efcient
and consi stent operati on of your grind er , remember that any worn or broken parts
must on ly be repla ced using ORIGINAL SP ARE P ARTS.
26 - US E ONL Y RECO MMENDED GR INDING WHEE LS.
27 - C HECK YOU R MAC HINE . Neve r wor k with a dam aged, poor ly re paire d,
incorre ctly tted, or arbitrar ily modied grinder . Do not remove, damage, or disab le
any saf ety device.
28 - USE RIGHT TOO L. Never use the grinder as a cutter or for grinding objects
other than saw chains. Don’t force tool or attachmen t to do a job for which it was
not des igned.
29 - LEND YOUR GRINDER ONL Y TO EXPERT USERS who are familiar with its
operati on and correc t use, and always give them the instruction manual to read
before they start a job.
30 - MAINT AIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest
perform ance. Follo w instruct ions for lu bricating a nd changin g accessori es.
31 - STORE YOUR GRINDER IN A DRY PLACE, raised off the ground and out of
the rea ch of child ren.
32 - NE VER LET YOUR G RINDER BE E XPOSED TO RAIN OR DAMPNES S.

36 - NEVER JERK THE CABLE T O DISCONNECT IT FROM TH E OUTLET . Keep
the cab le away fro m heat, oi l, and shar p objects.
37 - USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Ma ke sure y our extens ion cord is in goo d
conditi on. When using an extensi on cord, be s ure to use one heavy enough t o carry
the current you product will draw . An undersi zed cord will cause a drop in line voltage
resulti ng in loss of power and overheating. T able 1 shows the correct size to use
dependi ng on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next
heavier gage. The smaller the gage number , the heavier the cord.
