When working on vertical surfaces, hold the power tool with
the dust extraction hose facing downwards.
Operation
Starting Operation
Inserting the Battery
Slide the charged battery(2) into the power tool until the
battery is securely locked.
Switching On/Off
uMake sure that you are able to press the On/Off switch
without releasing the handle.
To switch on the power tool, press the on/off switch(6).
To switch off the power tool, press the on/off switch(6)
again.
Preselecting the Speed
You can preselect the required speed using the speed
preselection thumbwheel(1), even during operation.
1 low speed
2 medium speed
3 high speed
The required speed depends on the material and the work-
ing conditions; it can be ascertained through practical tests.
After working at a low speed for an extended period, you
should operate the power tool at the maximum speed for ap-
prox. three minutes without load to cool it down.
Working Advice
uRemove the battery from the power tool before carry-
ing out work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance,
changing tool, etc.). The battery should also be re-
moved for transport and storage. There is risk of injury
from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.
uAlways wait until the power tool has come to a com-
plete stop before placing it down.
uThis power tool is not suitable for bench-mounted use.
It must not be clamped into a vice or fastened to a work-
bench, for example.
Tip: Always sand curves at a low speed for best results.
Tip: The ergonomically shaped gripping surface allows for
dynamic and fatigue-free handling of the power tool (see fig-
ure F).
Sanding Surfaces
uWear protective gloves when grinding metals.
Switch the power tool on, place it against the surface of the
workpiece and apply moderate pressure as you move it over
the workpiece.
The material removal rate and sanding result are primarily
determined by the choice of sanding net, the preselected
speed setting and the contact pressure.
Only sanding nets in perfect condition achieve good sanding
performance and make the power tool last longer.
Be sure to apply consistent contact pressure in order to in-
crease the service life of the sanding nets.
Excessively increasing the contact pressure will not lead to
increased sanding performance; rather, it will cause more
severe wear of the power tool and of the sanding net.
Do not use sanding nets for other materials after they have
been used to work on metal.
Use only original Bosch-sanding accessories.
Rough Sanding
Attach sanding nets with a coarse grit.
Apply only light pressure to the power tool so that it runs at a
higher speed and a higher material removal rate is achieved.
Fine Sanding
Attach sanding nets with a fine grit.
You can reduce the sanding disc speed by varying the con-
tact pressure slightly or changing the speed setting, al-
though the random orbit motion is retained.
Applying moderate pressure, move the power tool over the
surface of the workpiece, either in a circular motion or al-
ternating between crossways and lengthways. To avoid
sanding through the workpiece, e.g. veneers, do not tilt the
power tool.
Switch the power tool off once you have finished your work.
Polishing
For polishing weathered paint or buffing out scratches (e.g.
in acrylic glass) and for polishing waxed/lubricated surfaces,
the power tool can be fitted with polishing sponges (ac-
cessories).
Select a low speed for polishing (level1) to prevent the sur-
face from overheating.
Apply the polish to an area slightly smaller than the area
which you intend to polish. Work the polishing agent in with
the polishing sponges, using side-to-side or circular motions
and applying moderate pressure.
Do not allow the polish to dry out on the surface; this may
damage the surface. Do not expose the surface which you in-
tend to polish to direct sunlight.
Clean the polishing sponges regularly to ensure good polish-
ing results. Wash out the polishing sponge with a mild deter-
gent and warm water; do not use paint thinner.
Application Table
The figures in the table below are recommended values.
The best method for determining the best combination while
sanding or polishing is practical experimentation.
Application Sanding net colour
(coarse/fine sanding) Speed setting
Abrading paint Yellow/green 2
Retouching paint Yellow 2/3
