Important

Make sure the adapter does not get wet.
This appliance is NO T a to y but an electric hair
clipper . If the appliance is used on young children’ s
hair , it must be oper ated by a responsible adult. Keep
the appliance out of the reach of young children.
W arning
The adapter contains a transfor mer . Do not cut off
the adapter to replace it with another plug, as this
causes a hazardous situation.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensor y
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge, unless they ha ve been given super vision
or instr uction concerning use of the appliance by a
per son responsib le for their safety .
Children should be super vised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
Caution
Use, charge and store the appliance at a temper ature
between 15°C and 35°C .
Do not charge the appliance in a pouch or cassette .
Only use the adapter supplied.
If the adapter is damaged, al ways hav e it replaced
with one of the original type in order to avoid a
hazard.
Do not use the appliance if the cutting unit or the
combs are damaged or broken, as this may cause
injur y .
This appliance is only intended for clipping human
scalp hair . Do not use it for another pur pose.
Do not use the appliance in the bath or in the
shower .
Never immerse the appliance in water or any other
liquid, nor rinse it under the tap.
General
The adapter transfor ms 100-240 v olts to a safe low
voltage of less than 24 v olts.
Electroma gnetic elds (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards
regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled
proper l y and according to the instr uctions in this user
manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientic
evidence availab le today .
Preparing for use
Charge indications
Charging
When you charge the appliance , the batter y light ashes
green to indicate that the appliance is charging.

Battery fully charged
When the batter y is fully charged, the batter y light lights
up green continuously .
Battery running low
When the batter y is r unning lo w , the batter y light turns
orange .
Note: When the batter y light turns orang e , the batter y still
contains enough power f or one haircut (approx. 15 minutes).
Recharge the appliance as soon as the motor star ts to run
more slowly .
Charging the appliance
Charge the appliance for at least 8 hour s before y ou use
it for the rst time and after a long per iod of disuse or
when the batter y light turns or ange to indicate that the
batter y is almost empty .
When it is fully charged, the appliance has a cordless
operating time of up to 45 minutes.
1 Switch off the appliance.
2 Insert the appliance plug into the appliance and put
the adapter in the wall sock et (Fig. 2).
After a few seconds, the batter y light starts ashing
green to indicate that the appliance is
charging (Fig. 3).
When the battery is fully charged, the battery light
lights up green continuousl y .
3 Remove the ada pter from the wall sock et when the
battery is fully charged (after 8 hours).
Corded clipping
When the rechargeable batter y is empty , you can also run
the appliance from the mains.
Using the appliance
Clipping with comb
Note: Mak e sur e the hair is clean and dr y . Do not use the
appliance on freshly washed hair .
Note: Mak e sur e the head of the person whose hair you
are cutting is at the same level as your chest. This ensures
that all par ts of the head ar e c learly visible and within easy
reach.
1 Comb the hair with the styling comb in the
direction of hair gr owth.
2 Choose whether you want to use the large or small
comb, depending on the desired hair length.
Use the small comb for a hair length of 3-21mm and use
the large comb for a hair length of 24-42mm.
3 Slide the comb into the guiding groov es of the
appliance (‘click’) (Fig. 4).
Make sure that the arms of the comb have been slid
proper l y into the grooves on both sides.
4 Press the setting selector (1) and slide the comb
to the desired hair length setting (2). Then release
the setting selector to lock the hair length
setting (Fig. 5).
Hair length settings
The settings are shown on the arms of the comb.
The settings correspond to the remaining hair length
after cutting (Fig. 6).
The small comb cuts the hair to a length of 3mm,
6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm or 21mm.
The large comb cuts the hair to a length of 24mm,
27mm, 30mm, 33mm, 36mm, 39mm or 42mm.
5 Switch on the appliance (Fig. 7).
6 Move the a ppliance through the hair slowly .
Note: Mak e sure that the at par t of the comb is fully in
contact with the scalp to obtain an even cutting result.
Tips:
Star t clipping at the highest hair length setting of the
comb and reduce the hair length setting gradually .
Write down the hair length settings you use to
create a cer tain hair style as a reminder f or future
clipping sessions.
T o clip most effectivel y , move the appliance against
the hair growth direction.
T ry different directions (upward, downward or
across), because hair doesn’t all gro w in the same
direction.

Make ov er lapping passes o ver the head to ensure
that the appliance catches all the hair s that need to
be cut.
Make sure that the at par t of the comb is fully in
contact with the scalp to obtain an even cutting
result.
T o achieve a good result with curly , spar se or long
hair , you can use the styling comb to guide the hair
towards the appliance.
Regular l y remove cut hair from the comb . If a lot of
hair has accumulated in the comb , remo ve it from the
appliance and blo w and/or shake the hair out of it.
Clipping without comb
Y ou can use the clipper without comb to contour the
neckline and the area around the ear s.
The comb keeps the cutting unit at a cer tain distance
from the head. This means that, if you use the clipper
without the comb, the hair is cut off ver y close to the skin.
1 Press and hold the setting selector (1) with one
hand and pull the comb off the appliance (2) with
your other hand (Fig. 8).
Nev er pull at the exible top of the comb. Alwa ys pull at
the bottom part.
2 Before y ou start to contour the hairline round the
ears, comb the hair ends over the ears.
3 Tilt the appliance in such a wa y that only one edge
of the cutting element touches the hair ends.
4 Only cut the hair ends. The hairline has to be close
to the ear .
5 T o contour the neckline and sideburns, turn the
appliance and mak e downward str okes.
6 Move the a ppliance slowly and smoothly . Follow the
natural hairline.
Graduation
The Philips hair clipper not only allows y ou to cut the hair
evenly at the same length all o ver the head, it also enab les
you to achiev e a smooth tr ansition from longer hair on
top of the head to shor ter hair on the back and sides of
the head.
1 Slide the large comb into the guiding groo ves of the
appliance (‘click’) (Fig. 4).
2 Start clipping at the setting for maximum hair
length (42mm).
3 Then choose a shorter setting and cut the hair on
all parts of the head, except f or the top, where you
want the hair to be longer .
4 Repeat this procedur e until all hairs hav e the
desired length.
Cutting o ver styling comb or ngers
This technique can be used to obtain hair lengths ov er
42mm. Bear in mind that this technique is difcult to
master and should only be applied by experienced user s.
1 Press and hold the setting selector (1) with one
hand and pull the comb off the appliance (2) with
your other hand (Fig. 8).
Nev er pull at the exible top of the comb. Alwa ys pull at
the bottom part.
2 Comb a small section of hair upwards.
3 Lift the hair with the styling comb and hold it
between y our ngers until only the length that
needs to be cut sticks out.
4 Cut the hair protruding fr om the comb or ngers.
5 Continue this procedur e and comb frequently to
remov e cut hair and to check for unev enly cut
sections.
Cleaning
Clean the appliance ever y time y ou have used it.
Nev er use scouring pads, abrasiv e cleaning agents or
aggressiv e liquids such as alcohol, petr ol or acetone to
clean the appliance.
Only clean the appliance with the cleaning brush
supplied.
Note: The appliance does not need to be lubr icated.
