9. CHANGING THE FREQUENCY BAND
In order to change the frequency band - for example from 35
t
o 40 / 41 MHz - the RF module for the “new” frequency band
must first be plugged into the transmitter.
Switch the transmitter on
The screen displays “ Mismatehed frquency band, Turn off
the power switch, exchange the RF-Module. Continue?”
Press the “Yes” button, and the Start display appears.
Press the Spot frequency button in order to move to the
“Frequency” Set-up menu.
In this menu the screen displays the message “
Mismatches frequency band. Change frequency ?”
Press the “Yes” button, and the screen now shows the
spot frequency select menu for the 40 / 41 MHz band.
Select the spot frequency you wish to employ using the
procedure described above.
The frequency bands 35 and 40 / 41 MHz are available for the
European region. Provided that the appropriate RF module is
installed, the software will offer the corresponding spot fre-
quencies from which you can choose as described above.
AREA CODE
In the “Frequency” Set-up menu you will also see a display of
the ar
ea code: “Ar
ea”. Since the RF modules are also area-
coded, this makes it possible to make available only those fre-
quency bands and spot frequencies which are approved for
use in a given region where the equipment is sold and used.
The software only accepts RF modules with the same area
code as the system itself.
MODULATION SELECT
This Set-up menu is also used for selecting the transmitter
modulation. The default setting is the new PCM-G3 system,
which matches the r
eceiver supplied in the set as standar
d.
However, the modulation can also be changed to the following
types, so that you can continue to use other receivers which
you may already own:
PCM 1024 system
Standard FM 8-channel (PPM)
12-channel FM with 1.3 ms neutral point (MPX)
12-channel FM with 1.5 ms neutral point (GR-JR)
It is also possible to switch the direction
of modulation from standard PPM to
reverse PPM, where that is required for
other makes of FM receiver.
Important note:
it has been established that problems can
occur if the transmitter is used with a Multiplex 9-channel or
12-channel IPD receiver. If servo travel is set to more than
135%, or if two channels are mixed together and the total tra-
vel is more than 135%, the receiver may switch to hold-mode!
It is absolutely essential that you check for system compatibi-
lity before using a different make of receiver, and if necessary
contact the manufacturer. Robbe Modellsport accepts no lia-
bility for such combinations.

The screen now shows a confirmation display, enabling
you to check the new spot frequency. The software asks
you if this information is now to be transmitted to the recei-
ver.
Press “Yes” to confirm this.
At this stage the RF transmission of control signals to the
receiver is switched off.
The screen switches to the transmission display, where the
transmission process is displayed in graphical form; the
transmitter emits an audible signal, and the monitor LED
flashes blue.
During this period you must switch the receiver on; if it is
already on, switch it off, then on again after two or three
seconds.
To indicate that the receiver has picked up the signal and
switched its frequency, the monitor LED on the receiver
flashes once, and a servo connected to channel 1 moves
briefly to the centre point three times.
Press “End” when the transmission is successfully com-
pleted.
The screen now asks whether you want to activate the
radio transmission of the control signals (Yes), or continue
working without broadcasting an RF signal (No).
If you press the “Yes” button, the transmitter and receiver
work on the newly selected frequency.
NOTE!
The frequency information is broadcast at very low transmitter
power
, with an ef
fective range of about 2 to 3 metres.
For the system to work, it is absolutely essential to extend the
receiver aerial and to fit the transmitter aerial (if you have not
already done so).
The transmission process may fail due to interference if there
is a PC, Blue Tooth device or mobile telephone etc. in the
immediate vicinity, as these transmitters are much more
powerful. If this should happen, take your equipment to a loca-
tion where there is no significant electrical “smog”.
If the monitor LED on the receiver flashes after the frequency
transmission process, or if the receiver fails to carry out the
confirmation signals mentioned above, then the frequency
change has not taken place. Repeat the procedure by pres-
sing the “Repeat” button, and place the transmitter and recei-
ver closer together.
The frequency transmission is carried out on channel 80 in the
35 MHz band, and if this channel should already be in use by
another transmitter, it is possible that the FX-40 will not trans-
mit with sufficient power to complete the frequency change-
over. In this case place the two aerials very close together, or
use the DSC lead to carry out the process.
