KM1075 Karaoke set !
7. Frequently-asked questions
The microphones are not working
In all likelihood the microphones are actually working, but the set is not correctly
connected or the TV is not properly set up.
First refer closely to the connection manual. All DVD-TV combinations are shown there,
and it is stated how the set should be connected.
If there is sound and picture from the DVD, but no sound from the karaoke set, this
could mean two things:
1. There is still an old connection (SCART, HDMI, AV cable) from the DVD to the TV.
The picture and sound are going via the old connection and not via the karaoke
set. So you cannot indeed hear the sound from the set. Solution: remove the old
connection and set the TV to the correct input. This is different for each
make/model of TV, but it is often done with a button (possibly on the remote)
labelled something like ‘TV/AV’, ‘EXT’, ‘MODE’ or ‘INPUT’.
2. The TV’s volume must be set a bit higher than usual. This is because you must be
able to hear the TV over your own voice. When you watch a film, this is not
needed. So turn the TV’s volume up nice and high. Then blow into one of the
microphones (do switch it on). If everything is properly connected and set up you
will hear a sort of loud blast through the TV’s speakers. If this is the case, everything
is working as required. The microphones must be kept close up to your mouth, just
like a singer on TV. This has been deliberately designed in this way to prevent
‘feedback’ (a loud high-pitched squeal that happens because the sound from
the TV is picked up by the microphones and goes back to the TV and back to the
microphones and back to the TV etc....).
If there is only picture from the DVD but no sound (neither from the DVD nor from the
microphones), then the audio cables (red and white) are not properly connected.
Even if the microphones were not working (or were off), the sound from the DVD
would just be transmitted. This would happen even if the karaoke set were not
plugged in to the mains socket. Check the cables again carefully. These should go
from the back of the DVD (important: do not use any connections on the front of a
DVD player) to the AV IN on the karaoke set and from the AV OUT on the karaoke set
to the TV.
Only use the ‘SCART OUT/DVD adapter’ at the DVD side! It will not work on the TV. If
the TV only has a SCART input, you can use the supplied SCART IN/TV cable.
The set is broken / damaged / does (absolutely) nothing
See under ‘The microphones are not working’.
To connect the karaoke set, you need the same knack as for connecting a DVD
player or video recorder. If you don’t succeed yourself and you also find it hard to
connect a DVD player, it might possibly be a good idea to ask a skilful neighbour to
give you a hand.
